Back seat delete kit???

So instead of getting leather back seat to match my front seats, I'm thinking about doing a back seat delete.
I have searched and no one seems to make one for Eclipse's!!WTF
Does any one make one, or am I going to have to custom make it?
I've heard of using the OEM compartment from other cars like an RX-7.
I just want a clean result when it is done.
Any input on what material to make it out of?
That will be durable but still not too heavy?

To remove the backseat, all you do is take it out, and the seat belts too. There aren't any "kits" to remove them.

I know how to take the back seat out.
What I mean is a kit that makes it look like there wasn't ever back seats.

I don't see how it would like like crap if it is done right.
Running with no interior is cool, is you have a race car!
But I do like that chassis brace.

that mustang just looks like they put carpet over the bare metal of were the seats used to be. Just put down some sound deading material and cover it with carpet. Or get creative and build a wall like thing like in 300zx's.

I think it is funny that with the FOX body guys these kits are a big thing.
But DSMer's just look at it like "that doesn't belong like that"
Any way I was just using the Mustang kit for an example.
So no one has done a custom delete?
I really want to say I've seen pictures of people who have done a clean back seat delete.

my back seat is gone and i built a plank for my subs. Unfortunately I never got around to carpeting it or anything so its all bare. haha

Mine. Just some headliner material cut to fit. Will look better when the battery gets moved again.

Cool I kind of like the headliner material look, how much does a roll of that material cost?
I'm thinking about making a light "cage" to fit back there and then wrap it with some nice matching material like that.

I think he means a fabbed up lightweight frame to put the material on. You could always make a wood frame and fiberglass it smooth and cover it.

That I could wrap some material around, in order to have it flush.
I'm going to try and draw up some idea's and measure the seat.
Then it'll be easier to see what I mean.

This is what I did. I used 3/4" MDF to make it, you could use 1/2" to save weight. I then wrapped it with regular speaker box carpet.

I am considering making something out of Styrofoam to save weight and just put a hard cover over the top of it before I wrap it with some kind of material.

Your going to be on your own for this one. use a nice lightwieght wood and some fabric from any craft store and go to town.... maybe do a DIY and the next guy looking has an idea of what to do... I did the stripped race car look....

I like the look of this. It's what I had planned to do with the Eclipse. But nobody's going to make these for the DSM. I know these "kits" are popular with other cars (the cars that have owners who actually spend money on them) like the E46 M3 and the Mustangs, etc. But DSMers are too cheap for something like this. You don't see DSMers focusing on doing a complete build and adding finishing details like this. It's all about cheap and easy in our world.

I'd love to see what other solutions people have used for finishing their back seat removals. My plan was to use carpet like this photo, but taking it a step further and running the carpet up the sides in place of the beat up plastic interior panels. Yet make it removable (with velcro, clips or buttons) so I could pull it out for a track day. This way I wouldn't have to drive it around looking like it was just pillaged at a salvage yard. We'll see if I ever get around to it.

Chris, there was a great thread...that I'm not seeing at the moment...where a 1g guy used RX7 compartments in his delete. I'll keep looking, but it was nice. Several years old, though. I'm thinking this was around 04.

I am making something similar. I am in the process of shaping some styrofoam for a mold and them plan on laying fiberglass so it flows with the interior. I have been taking pictures along the way and will do a write up when finished.
