My back seat Nitrous tank build

I don't know why I start these projects they take me forever. So after putting everything in the car and looking at it I did'nt like the way it flowed together. So I ripped everything out and started over with the subbox this time something simple and centered in the car.

I then covered the bottom frame after I re did the nitrous tank wells. I re did the wells because I had bought thses Harris Speed Works tank frames and had noway of getting to the pins to remove the tanks. So heres the bottom frame covered in suede and the tank wells in CF. I f-ed up the CF in some areas, but you can't really see it with the tanks installed.

Finally put everything in minus the amp and FPC for a test fit. I still have tons to do but I like this setup much better.

Oh and thanks to advfuelinj for giving me the idea for the tank holders, I ended up going with these from Harris Speed Works because they came in black anodized.

In no way is that track legal and i don't know why you needed two bottles but still good work. Also did you make the sub enclosure out of expanda-foam? It should have been fiberglassed.

The sub enclosure is'nt done yet its just fleece and resin and comes out on track day. Why is'nt it track legal, the vent tubes go through the bottom of the car which is per the NHRA book. Is that what your talking about? I got two bottles in the deal so two botttles went in the car.

NHRA rules specify you must have a blown down tube, which you have, and you must also have a bulkhead between you and the bottles.. Which means a trunk, or backseats.

Crap, well I will just mount it in the trunk for track day. I still have the ZEX brackets that came with the bottles.

Yeah, just have some extra hose and what not so you don't ever have to rip anything apart and just keep the stuff in your garage until track day... disconnect your current lines, connect the longer lines that go into the hatch and bolt the stuff down... And you don't really need two tanks for single 1/4 mile runs do you? You could just bring both tanks and only have one strapped up in the trunk and when that one is empty, swap it out for the other... only for track day ofcourse.

Yep thats what I plan to do. I Built this setup this way because thats the way I thought it would look best. I got two bottles, all the lines, silnoids, wiring, and a bunch of other crap in the deal and all the extras so why not throw everything in the car. Its a bummer about the bulkhead rule but f-it i'll work around it.

The second tank and line runs up to my FMIC and I'm going to make spray bar. Its just a toy. Thanks for all the replys and advice.

Yea, as long as those blow down tubes go out of the car to the ground you are legit (well also gotta have aproved brackets) I ran my mustang (89 lx 5.0) with the nithrous bottle mounted in the middle of the back seat area oon top of some MDF that housed my amps through clear plexiglass) The pimp part was that i took a duffle bag placed the tank and brakets inside it nad then bolted it to the MDF .. so until it was unzipped it just looked like a gym back in the back seat area

great work... What would be super sool is if you bottles could "lower themselves" out of sight..that would be james bond all the way :)

about the bulkhead part.. I know of at least 3 cars that have run in the low 11's and 10s with the bottle in the passenger compartment and no interior (seats or home made bulkhead) to seperate it from driver space and they pass tech all the time *shrugs* unless it's a rule from the last 2 years (haven't raced them) then i don't think it's a must

Thanks, That would be cool if I had the time. This has taken forever as it is. I will check with the drag strip to see what the say about the tank location.

ive seen many track cars with the nitrous bottle within arms reach so the driver can turn the bottle on, ive even seen them in the passenger seat location. But just because ive seen them and they have raced dosnt mena that it is legit, but you might get away

The vinyl CF found at AutoZone looks real, but isn't real and doesn't mold to anything but flat surfaces.... I've used it on a few things but only things with flat surfaces look right. So yeah

If you know how to work with vynl you can easily contour to curved surfaces.

finally got the sub box covered in suede. I like'd it so much I ordered more and covered the side panels and will now do the headliner also. I made this CF ring for the speaker also still needs to be wetsanded and cleared. Still need to mount the capacitor and wire it up!
In the last one you can see the only seam that I had.:shhh:

Looks great!do you do this for a living?

No, this is just a hobby. I really like to make stuff and learn how to do new things. It keeps me away from the drugs and hookers.:p

I finally finished the passenger panel today and must say this has turned out the best so far.
I really dont like to see wires and had tried a few ways of hiding them but this turned out good.

Just food for thought you could suede the headliner (I know you said you wanted to just saying), the hatch privacy cover, and even the plastic molding on the rear hatch. I plan on doing some of that slowly this summer.

BTW what was your method to the suede? Did you just use spray adhesive from a fabric store, stretch, and get all the wrinkles out?
