Powered sub in back seat of my Spyder?

So, I have a 98 Spyder GST. My wife recently bought a 2012 Spyder GS Sport. One of the things I like about her car is the sub frenched into her back seat. It gives just enough thump to sound good. I'm 44 and have no need of huge bass anymore, but, would dearly love some nice tight thump in my Spyder. I plan on going with one of those powered underseat sub boxes cut into my rear seat back. As soon as i can find another seat back, as I'm not cutting my original up. Anywho, questions on this... anybody have suggestions on good underseat sub setups? Has anyone done this before , and do you have pics, tips, tricks? Any other suggestions as to how to up the bass a bit in my Spyder. I have an aftermarket headunit, running through the stock infinity amp, with Kenwood speakers in the door and rear seat area, and Bose tweeters in the dash. My mids and highs are great, and the soundstage is right where I want it, just need some more down low.

In my spyder I have a 12 inch PowerBass truck sub underneath my convertible top. I don't know the exact power output of the sub but it sounds pretty good with minimal rattling unless I turn the volume up to like 20. It was really easy install since the came in a shallow box that was just wide enough it wouldn't shift around without any kind of mounting brackets. I literally just set it under the top then laid it down so the sub was at an angle firing downwards. This isn't the best setup in the world but the install took about 30-45 minutes for the wiring and about 2 minutes to get the sub in place, plus I don't lose any trunk space or seating space and my top still folds down. The sub I have looks like this.

I just recently installed a Kicker 10" powered sub box in my truck and it really surprised me. It was perfect for what I wanted and everyone that hears it is impressed, especially when I show them how small the box is. It was $180 at Walmart.

I had basically the same setup. I put a Kicker 10" 100w powered box in the space under the vinyl convertible boot. It barely fit in but is now completely hidden and only uses otherwise unused space. The bass goes right through the rear seats. IMHO, this really is the only way to do this with no drawbacks. I'll get you some pics soon.

Depending on how much power youre looking to add, kicker has their 8", 150w rms bass-station thats does pretty good for a small setup. Comes with a bass control knob, and is compact/well constructed. If you want a little more sound, Rockford fosgate has a powered 10" 300w rms w/bass knob. The kicker setup can be had for around 150 online, same for the Rockford.

I install alot of the kickers in single cab pickups, the Rockford is larger, but either should work in a spider decently.

Edit: just so you know, both these all-in-ones use high level input (speaker level) but I believe you can toggle them to low level and wire rca ends on.

With the Kicker box I have, you can run either way...BUT, there are no RCA inputs (!?), so you must cut and strip an RCA patch cable to use the line level output from your deck. Again, this (IMHO) is the way to go.

BTW, nice looking Spyder! I see that you too are still suffering from monster truck stock ride height. We gotta get that remedied!

Most of the small all in ones all sound terrible the option I would recommend is a truck box and a shallow sub like the second post here said... Rockford make a good one kicker make a decent one but I would go Rockford if your looking for all in one. The small systems they sell for underseat have a lot of weird rattles and woofer noise drives me crazy everytime I hear one! So moral of the story stay away from the hideaways and your ok with something like a kicker bass station or build your own truck box sub amp combo ... this is my career what I do everyday

Yeah, it's on the list. As soon as I find coil overs that won't kill my back! Lol. I'm old and it's my daily..... but you're right, you can see eat too much wheel well....

Sweet, thanks for the direction. I'll probably follow your advice and utilize the space under the top with a custom enclosure...

Yes you could, but I've noticed the filtering isn't as good as splicing in rca ends for direct sub-out connections at the deck.

Again, these options are the quickest way to get an inclusive package, by no means the best way or my most recommended. I agree with @Denvario that a custom sub enclosure will give you the most capability and better performance. Most ppl just don't want to go that route, but this is tundra, the very home of the diy'er. Get glassin'
