It was just a warning against bumping in general... you're fine. I'll try to do a writeup sometime soon since Sam left the 420A scene, but really, all the information you'll ever need is as megasquirt.info, msextra.com, and msefi.com.

Great write up! Just want to add that if your MS is setup for 420a you do not the ignitor. In my case it fires the coil directly. Just for information of people that might get confused.

Mark's was a special case because of a miscommunication, and the way the MS unit was pre-configured from Terry. I think he just went with the 4G63 ignitor for simplicity, rather than having to open up the unit and add another internal transistor.

Ok... that doesn't mean you can't add them... As far as I see it, VB921s are the preferred method.

Funny we should have this conversation. I did choose not to use the VB921 because I find it interesting to use different DSM parts for a DSM (especially when crossing from NT to Turbo). Yeah, I'm a little Eff'ed up that way WTF . Terry and I did get the communication straightened out on the next one he sent me and she is on and running.

This subject points out something that made this write up so difficult for me. There are so many different choices and ways to do this or that, that I at first tried to include "disclaimers" and footnotes about various differences. That made it choppy, wordy and confusing. I eventually pared it down to what it is right now. Pretty much a general idea of one way to do the install. I know that if I saw this prior to my own, I would have had a much higher confidence level when I started doing it.

And Paul, not to spread rumors or anything, in my research I did see some unsolved problems with VB921's (at least in the threads). Some not working for no reason and some burning up. This doesn't mean that they didn't set dwells at like 25 or misconfigure their boxes (total possibilities). But I did see nothing but good stuff on the 1g ignitor. That along with the fact that it is a time proven piece (of course also, the cool DSM on a DSM connection) made me want to take that route.

Not that one is better than the other. Just my reasoning for my choice.

That's funny, because the more I looked into it, the more I saw people claiming their 10+ year old were dying from age.

Either way, both methods have been proven to work fine. Anyone interested will have to do their own research to make an informed decision.
