Motor question

I have a working complete motor that I took out of my car. Kind of low on compression but, I was wondering that if Its still good after a year in the garage on an engine stand? Or how long is too long?

So long as it had an oil film. Id pull the valve cover and oilpan and inspect everything for rust

I would think its still good. Just make sure to prime the oiling system before start up.

Spark plugs in it?

Intake and exhaust ports plugged/taped?

If you have access to borascope, pull the spark plug and check the cylinder walls for rust.

As long as it is properly stored( away from water/snow. All ports to the engine are blocked so nothing can get inside) you can store an engine for a loooong time. Just make sure all gaskets are good before reinstalling it. ( if it was me I would just replace them since its out anyways)

As piece of mind, I would pull the head and oil pan. Ide apply oil to the cylinder walls and drizzle oil on any of the rotating surfaces ( i dont mean pull at the mains and con rods ) just cover things in oil.

If you want to stay away from pulling the head, I would definitely look to see if the cylinder walls are covered in rust using a (see snake/ borascope (as previously mentioned))

I would atleast pull the oil pan. Its easy enough and will definitely give you a good look at the cylinders condition.

Once you lube things up, try to rotate the engine @ the crank bolt. (make sure your timing is set or the cams are out)

The motor is completly block all around.
