MMcd Palm emulator with usb laptop?

Question:

I have MMcd datalogging program working on a dell laptop with the palm os emulator which simulates the palm operating system on a pc, i olny have usb ports on my laptop, has anyone used this setup, with sucess, i can get it to log but the numbers are all over the place the rpm jumps from 125 to 7000 at idle?? do i have the ecu in run or diagnotic mode do i need to ground it?, i have a cable that plugs into my car with three wires, not power take off or any othe wires just 3 wire going to the cable. is this the right setup, i have a serial jack to a usb converter and have installed the driver software for the jack hook-up,

Any assistance would be grealty appriceated, i have

A dell 8600 notebook, only usb comm jacks on it
mmcd -> nice software
tunerstein -> complete waste of your time
cable with car plug with three wires to a serial jack
serial jack to usb jack converter

Also one more thing what is the proper cable setup for a 1g with laptop? is there a different setup when using a pc based logger or a pal emulator program with palm software?

You have to use the Keyspand USB to serial Adaptor.

I got mines from Amazon, this is the only USB setup that is quick enough to transfer all
that data from the cars ecu. 90 % of the USB adaptors for your laptop arent fast enough and gives results like you are getting.
