Might trade my 95 GS-T for a 05 volks GOLF...

I will always be a DSMer at heart, but the Volkswagen Golf and GTI are pretty bad ass. What are your opinions about my decision?

you don't want a v-dub. of any kind. period.

thats weird, my whole family and few relatives had VWs, and my brother-in-law works for Mitsu dealership, when i got a DSM last year he said i should have stayed with VWs, and that Mitsu motors are good for only about 100K miles, he tells me a bunch of stories of how crappy things are built by Mitsu. I guess the only fair comparison is to have worked for both dealerships, makes me think that all dealerships will always have their negative feelings about the cars they service because that is what they're seeing every single day

I can only comment from my experiences with VWs-the 1991 Jetta my then girlfriend (now wife) had was a great car-solid, dependable and fast enough for the timeframe. We then got an 02 1.8T Jetta and kept it for 56,000 miles before running away from it. Multiple Coil pack failures, the window falling into the door problem, front wheel bearing went bad and clutch blew...all in under 60,000k. I'm perfectly willing to submit that driving style can cause some of the issues (particularly clutch) but I'll also caveat that neither my 97 Toyota Tacoma (which I had from mile 7 to 110,000) nor her 97 Honda Prelude (miles 20,000-120,000) required a clutch replacement in our owning of them. My Land Rover Discovery did when I grenaded the clutch off road...at 145,000 miles on the odometer on the O.E. clutch. So I'm more prone to believe it was poor quality in the vehicle in question. It's primary duty was driving my newborn daughter around-not racing around town.

My take on it is, from talking with some of the techs as we frequently sat in the VW dealership, some days it seemed like everyone in the factory was drunk. Cool for them...not so much for the owner of the car. I realize that's bit facetious, but who knows? So watch out for the quality control I guess.

That being said, I wouldn't trade my AWD Talon for any VW...no comparison in my opinion

Well i have a 02 Jetta 1.8T as a daily driver.. I love that thing great car. Now has 62xxx I would have NEVER traided my GS-T of for it! But it's a damn good car for daily driving. I would say get the VW for a daily driver and keep the GS-T for your weekend car.. IMO

Are you serious? Maybe the vr6 is different but my friend has two supercharged corrados a 91 and a 93 while they're gorgeous vehicles, they have no power stock from the factory. Hell they don' t even have four valves per cylinder... when my talon was stock we raced at the track and he lost by almost two seconds. I ran a 14.59 to his 16.37, and that was his best run. The whole night he was pulling 17's or worse.
But all in all the car is really fun to drive, and its not exactly a common vehicle so he always gets head turns.

Well Josh, thats why I didn't say anything about the G60 Supercharged version, it only has 158 hp at the crank. VR6 on the other hand has almost 180 hp at the crank, BUT has alot more aftermarket products for it as far as performance, I am really suprised he even got that close to you. They are a all around performance car, not just straight line, alot of it is just how they FEEL when you drive them, that is something that is hard to measure. But they are probably the most masculine VW out there.

I agree , they are all around fun. it is about the feel. didn't mean to sound like a jerk. sorry if it seemed like it. and he came that close to me because A. i'm a horrible driver, and B. he's a really good driver.
or somethings wrong with the car... who knows
