Bro im gona have to disagree there. a 20 year old car is gona break alot more than a 11-13 year old car.theres gona be alot more parts that he gona have to change just to have it up to date.. unless he a die hard 1g guy like u and me. he gona end up hating the car. i had a 98 and sold it to get my 91 and i knew what i was getting into.. now if your gona get a 1g get a 90 or 91. 1g and 2g are both pretty easy to work on. if i was him and really wanted a pretty 2g i find me a blown gsx for cheap. find me a six bolt and drop it in LOL.

Yea but i mean it in another way, hes going to learn on that car 1500$ thats a blown turbo no clutch crank walking 2g LOL finding a nice 2g without a problem for that price iits very complicated, maybe around 3500$+ you could find a well taken care off Dsm anyways its your choice, and hell yea so much space on 1g bay i was thinking about swapping a 2jz LOL jk but yea theyr pretty easy to work on and find problems thats what i love about... im not liking the idea off forging the internals tho but ill give it a shot in a few months...

I been away for 6 months now. but i get on here and read. for someone that rides a skateboard to the meets. u must really like dsm's LOL. shit u should be an example for all the ones that dont go couse car is down. yes that goes for me too . so what tha heck. get ## self a 90-91 gsx. i paid 1,800 for mine with 97k miles and no breaks LOL. so that should help u a lil. but and i mean BUT, the minute u start messing with it. you will need your skateboard. what im saying is your skateboard gona be your daily driver LOL.
on another note i heard u guys complain about miami finest. u guys better be glad ## not in broward county.

If you plan on going turbo, then do yourself the favor and eliminate every non-turbo car your browsing through from your list. It will be MUCH cheaper and better to just buy a GST/X in the long run.

I have nothing against 420a's or 1.8 4G67's. They are perfect for daily driving and get excellent gas mileage. But if you are thinking of boosting any of them, you'll end up spending a bit more then you would just buying a already factory turbo-ed car. You have to take into account of buying the actual turbo kit (assuming a real one, not some cheap ebay kit), some kind of management system, and run it at 4-8PSI or so.

Anymore then that, you'll want to remove the engine and rebuild it to handle more abuse.


Trust me, go Turbo if that's what your wanting. Sides, all those N/T's on craigs looked like they were worth way less then what they're asking prices are. That 1990, probably needs a chunk of work needing to be done to it, and add that its a 1990 which is like a black sheep when it comes to buying certain parts for it.

To be honest must of those cars could be great donors, anyways makkng a non turbo turbo its not like changing skateboard wheels it takes 10 manual books, 250 field trips to junk yards around to find parts, 135 ebay auctions, stress pills so you could be able to sleep, spend at least 3 hours a day learning here on dsmtuners, llittle experience and too much love for a DSM ,,, plus you will end wasting 1k+ more then what your expecting, in my opinion dont doit i did and it took me 8 month cause off money and finding parts its so hard to find many of the parts, you could make as fast as a stock turbo at 5psi tho LOL i love it just keep searching for a gst i know you could find a cheap one dont even try in your search gsx tho LOL

It doesnt mean anything at thats just the way the head was manufactured, now as for the turbo models are from 1989-1999 all the ECLIPSE GST/GSX, TALONS TSI/AWD, LASER RST/AWD a way to discribed the 4g63T its so dam easy LOL just look for the turbo in the engine bay j/k assuming there still a few 4g63 N/T around. It should say on the valve cover 16valve doch2000 , and the intake its pointing to the left unlike the 420a witch point to the right like the new evos head design...now if its a 6 or 7 bolt? 6bolt oil pan looks rounded 7bolt have like a little dent.... If its a 1g or 2g 4g63? 1g oil pan are short, 2g oil pan are a lttle bit taller... anyt more questions?

just look at it LOL rims, body style... if your actually in front of the car look thru the front of the car for the factory intercooler, pop the hood etc. soooooooooo many things.

ALL 4g63 model 2Gs are turbo. there is also the 2.4 and 420A models which aint.

1Gs have the 1.8 CACA, the 4g63 n/t and the 4g63T

and PLEASE! for the love of god! dont look into getting an automatic :ohdamn:

Bro leave greddy for the nissans,, its too freaking expensive i know you aint down to pay 2400$ for a kit witch your not going to be able to fully use cause the da dam n/t piston hate boost!!!, Look for a turbo eclipse quit playing the mechanic with those n/a turbo they really need someone who can take good care and lots off baby seating LOL behind oil,water,leaks,gaskets and stuff, btw the 420a valve cover looks similar to the srt4s theyr different tho im telling you this cause iv seen a couple off swaps already around...

It's very easy to tell a non-turbo from a turbo DSM.

In all honesty, the only non-turbo I would even consider getting if the price was right would be either a 1G 4G63 N/T (Again, would be saving a lot more money down the road if it was just turbo) or a 2G Spyder GS 4G64 (which is basically a N/T 4G63, but single cam and is a 2.4 instead of a 2.0)

A very easy way to tell what DSM your looking at is by actually popping the hood. If the timing belt is on the right side, it's a 4G63 (minus the 1.8 1g version). If the timing belt is on the left, you have a 420a dodge neon motor in it.

Study the picture of an actual 4G63 and memorize it and you'll be able to spot one with no problem. Body trim may help as well, but can throw you off as a lot of the GS's came with sideskirts. 99 OZ rally editions even came with the High-Rise spoiler. So again, make sure you double check under the hood.

Now, for 4G63 differences. It's very very simple. As the hood is popped open, look for the oil filter which is somewhere near/below the alternator. If it's small, it's a 7-Bolt. If it's a much larger one, then it's a 6-bolt.

Why is getting a greddy turbo bad
A Greddy Turbo/Kit itself is not bad. Greddy has a great reputation and have pretty decent street turbo's. But you will definitely be paying for it. And just to run it properly, you'll have to spend a whole lot more on the motor aside from that kit or else you'll find yourself grenading the motor once you get a slight thirst for more power.

Now TURBO+BOTTLE=HIROSHIMAS NUKE! never try that at home ok!!!! nooo CACA LOL like AG said!! Btw are we having a next meet?

Well, let's go ahead and do this here.

I'm going to be taking a roll call. How many people are SURE they are going to be able to make it to the DSM meet on the 28th of THIS November.

So far off the top of my head, I know 3 that are going not including myself. But I want to see a rough headcount.
