I was just wondering if I upped the horsepower in my eclipse 420a, how much I can run without completely killing my transmission, which is an automatic. And what I can do to upgrade the transmission that wount break the bank. Also my cars tranny has 160k and my engine has around 90k if that helps.

the best thing to do and cheap is to get a High Stall Torque Converters and if u want to boost u can it only when u start to make real HP then need to do it all over from inside out

Automatic turbo dsm trannys are almost bullet proof for mild HP cars....And by mild HP I mean about 400whp..

I cannot tell you how good the 420a trannies are..That would be better left to a n/t guy..

Doesn't matter, more than likely you'll never see over 180whp. You'll be fine.

I think that 180whp is not too hard to get too. I know that the automatic robs a lot of horsepower due to drivetrain loss as apposed to a manual transmission, but its still not that hard.

180hp will be a lot harder than you think unless your going turbo or n2o. Intake and header wont do it.

The most hp on a 420a with no turbo on the site is less than 220..It's gonna be harder than you think..

Why are you against the trans swap? It's gonna be just as difficult as the MS and cams install you are going to need to hit 180hp.

I hear yea, but aren't installing cams easier than doing a transmission swap?
