mass air flow

hey guys i searched and could not find what i was looking for so i was wondering if you could link me or answer this question for me.

is the mass air flow sensor inside my intake blocking my intake form getting the best amount of air, if so how do i remove it without getting a check engine light, or is there a way to just erase the code

also, on another note.

im upgrading my turbo and wanted to know but it be better to buy just a big 16g or port out my 14b? id the only difference on the turbo the size of the opening?

You cannot just remove that sensor. It is there to tell your ecu how much air is entering so it can add the right amount of fuel. You can remove some of the honeycombs, or replace it with a better flowing 2g MAS, Evo MAS, or GM MAF. Look those up to find out how to do each.

Actually, you can get rid of it and all MAF sensors altogether. It is a restriction too, albeit a small one.

You can always get rid of it.... and defiantly get the big 16g

At your stage in the game, upgrading to a 2gen Maf would be the easiest thing to tune and use. People have made well over 400whp with a 2gen maf....Read more about this mod at the vfaq site....and for more user feedback, I ran low 12s on an unhacked 2gen maf and I could have ran faster....

with that 2g maf does it install exactly like the 1stgen and is having that first gen robbing me of some horsepower, because it looks like it could be?

You can always hack it!
Get a 2g MAF and also can hack that too!

OR you can get the 3" GM MAF Which you will need to get a MAF Transislator for!
but i think thats the best way!

k, like ive been looking online and i see some people are selling thier old hacked maf card, would it install just like the 1st maf or do i need anything new?

Yes it installs similarly to how your 1gen maf is installed but it flows more air to reduse the restriction your worried about. I previously posted a link that shows you how to install the maf and what needs to be modified. Goodluck and follow up with what you decide to do so other people can really benefit from you experience.

thanks , so it does restrict air flow...thats what i thought , well im gonna look into that 2g maf and i saw some hacked one on some forums and ebay, im deffially gonna look into it. any idea how many horses it might increase because i have a good feeling im gonna be going faster

I don't think hp gain will be high but you will most definetly notice better throttle response

i think the 3'' GM MAF with Transislator box will be the best performance gain, plus you can upgrade injectors and tune it through the MAFT ....but its not to safe to go too high with out combinding the MAFT with dsmlink or some other fuel managment system!
