i have an automatic gsx what do i need to make it standard???? i was told that i needed a different rear end drive shaft transfer case front axles and tranny also shifter linkage and pedal anything else like wiring or sensors???

Is it the same for fwd manual swap? I figured it was just basic... tranny, pedal. Sensors, linkage etc. Would I need new axle?

You will need a M/T 4 rear end as well since they have different gear ratios

Have you considered searching?

Moreover, have you considered selling the car instead of ruining it with a weaker drivetrain?

how do you mean "weaker"? i have always been under the impression that automatics were weaker and prone to damage more than a manual transmission. there are also alot more possibilities for performance upgrades for a manual transmission than there are for an automatic. i have a 91 gsx auto with a shift kit and thats basicaly all i have been able to find for it. i cant find a torque converter anywhere so im at wits end when it comes to drivetrain.

well turbo rookie, mainly you would have to change the pedal brackets and linkage, shifter ,ecu ,tcu , and trans all at once if you're trying to get up and go, this will take maybe a week or two if you're trying to take it to a shop and will cost you over a grand

no i understand that i wonder why he used the term "weaker" is the autumatic drive train supposedly stronger and/or more reliable than the manual drive train? mine is an automatic and i have been considering converting it to a manual just because i hate automatics and have always been under the impression that automatic transmissions were weaker than manuals. mine also has a shift-kit so my transmission life expectancy has diminished due to that fact alone. but if the automatics last longer and can handle more than the manuals then ill keep it an automatic.

Well, you were under the wrong impression. The automatic transmission in a DSM is stronger than the manual. By stronger, I mean it will receive more torque without shattering into a billion pieces, or breaking spider gears, or differentials, or any other part of the driveline.

wow hmm i didnt know that. thats pretty cool. might just keep mine an automatic if i decide to do some serious stuff to it. thanks for the info.

Call IPT trans in NJ, and see what they can do for ya, shift kit and extra goodies for the auto. I had a AWD 2g and let me tell ya, 320hp with shift kit and let me tell ya, it was a fun ride...

but if you must go to a 5spd, trans, with matching tq (if awd) front axles/rear end (if awd) pedals, shifter w/cables, well really the whole drive line from a 5spd car. It can be done in a weekend if you have ALL the parts, i've helped with 2 and shook my head the whole time but not my cup of tea... Now my current ride, yeah its going to be a 5spd.

good luck.
