Ok guys first of all I wanted to start off by saying I am a certified technician and I understand what I'm doing. Now here's the story, I had a small leak on the bottom of my gas tank and I bought a good one and had the studs on top redone. Well yesterday I installed the tank and everything went good. When I reinstalled the fuel pump my gauge is past E in the negative zone. If I take it out an move the floater it will go to any level I want. I know it's not hung up because its exactly how it was. I had a few wires break but I properly fixed them and the car runs. I'm just not sure why the gauge won't work. Also my gas light is stuck on too.

Ok but I Can make the gauge move when It's out side of the tank. Are you saying out it in and disconnect the battery then see?

What exactly happened to yours? It's odd that it was working until I put it back in the tank.

True, ill have to check the dsm shop by me. It's just weird it works outside of the tank.

There is the little block hollow box floater. I would imagine with the car in the "on" position you could lift it up and down to simulate full and empty. I would pull the MPI( Same on 2g?) To keep the pump from "dry priming" while you have it out of the tank.

Yea that's what I was doing. As soon as I set it in the tank the gauge just falls Down again. It's really puzzling, I'm gunna go out there and take another look at it. This is day 2 trying to diagnose it.

I'm going to try to test the floater with water or something and ill get back.

Okay so my float is fine I tested it in the tank. as soon as I put the sending unit in the tank it drops all the way negative. We are so confused. I think I'm going to buy another but I'm just worried this isn't the problem because It reads fine untill it's inside the tank.
