Trying to eliminate one or the other but unfortunately I can't find my factory MAF. That leaves being stuck w MAFT for a month or so. Tuned the car lord knows how on both and drove in the garage. Disconnect battery, unhook SAFC try to start the car. Solid RED on translator. Repeatedly until a 3/8 ratchet is lodged somewhere in the garage sheetrock. What am I missing? I even went back to how it was and it still wouldn't wven turn over
 
I greatly appreciate the help. Everything ivr read has been eliminate either SAFC-2 or 3"MAFT. I'll find the wiring diagram for the SAFC. I literally got the car back after 10 years from my friend sitting it in a barn doing all this. I couldn't get it to start after i pulled in the garage. I finally got it cranked but it was soo rich i shut it off. I'm going to tune it up today. Again thanks. I'll edit video on my YouTube channel F.A.Q. TV so everyone can see
 
You have a 98 like I do. Look into ceddymods and the flashable H8 ecu. All you’ll need is a tactrix open port 2.0 cable($160-$170), ECUFlash(free), and Evoscan($25) to log. That and read read read as much as you can.


Or ECMLink for around $550 used. Both are very viable tuning solutions.

I don’t think you need AEM unless you specifically need the extra inputs/outputs and control.
 
I'm just at my wits end. I wasn't able to get the plugs/wires today so that will be the first. I noticed immediately all I smelt was gas but wasn't firing. I am looking into coil related but how the heck could all 4 die together? I've got MAFT mode 4 off, 1,2 on and 3 off. AUX on left set to zero. I'm going to start leaning it out at idle and go from there. Then there is rhe SAFC-2. Where to begin. Every single Hi LO and the otgers are 0%- 100%. Unfortunately I don't have the last file that was working . Would you eliminate the GM MAFT or the SAFC? I've got 2 ECU's not socketed. Tune up first then I'll update as soon as it's done. Thanks guys
 
I have to buy a socket ECU, I'm no dummy, but until then I'm stuck w this. I wonder if anyone needs transfer cases and whatever else i have taking up room.
 
As CrackedDSM just said you already have a black box ecu (98/99) which is programmable via evoscan using a tactrix cable. There's absolutely no reason for you to go eprom/dsmlink. I still have an safc because I'm old and I only need it to run 650ccs. I realize you've been out of the game for 10 years but take all that crap out, get a used maf for $25 and learn evoscan.
 
I looked at ceddy and actually understood it this morning. I had just finished 6 12's and was exhausted. No excuse. I had actually been thinking one or the other was messed up to begin but hoped not. I've tried a few local salvage yards looking for a factory MAF with no luck. I searched here, no luck. I seriously do appreciate the insight. I unfortunately feel like a dumba$$. As bad as I hate to admit, I am yet again at the beginning stages of Tuning 101.
