maf translator help for a newbie

ok so i have this major problem maybe some one can direct me about it. to start out with im new to the dsm world i purchased a 97 eclipse gst spyder that needed new rod barrings upon getting it i decided it would be wise to have the whole engine overhauled and have the crank turned or replaced and so on well i dont knw anything really about this car i got it bc i was in need of a car and i was tired of hondas and wanted something new and would get enjoyment out of i paid a guy to pull the engine and take it to a engine shop where id have the work professionally done with a warrenty and so fourth 2700 dollars later i get the engine back in runs mechanically sound but has a idoling problem i get it home and realize the black box (translator box) isnt hooked up (this should be the idoling problem i have? ) i dont know about this box this is where i need you guys help for advice in hooking it up right and i can get it tuned id really apreciate all the help i can get bc i dont know what im doing i have a friend that semi knows but needs some guidance bc he has never seen a translator box like this bf HELP

update head is getting plenty of oil and it has plenty of oil, hooked the maf translator box to base setting and she runs and boost fine,but when got back the altinator was smoking and caught fire any idea what would do that we cleaned it to make sure there was no oil in it with brake parts clean not sure what would cause this any idea?
 
did you clean it with brake parts cleaner and then drive it? Because most BP cleaners are flammable and an alternator can catch on fire if its doused in flammable liquids while the car is running. Also if the car has an after market o2 housing or exhaust it can cause excessive heat. I would check for a short in the wiring if you didnt clean it prior to it catching fire.
 
my friends cleaned it with brake parts cleaner after the fact since then i not had any problems out of it, but driving it I was paranoid to drive it but (so far so good ). thanks to you all i cant thank you enough for your advice with out it i dunno if id have my car running i was getting ready to turn it into a flower pot LOL.. Off the top of your head do you know what color my car is or where i can go to find out .

well its down again i was on the interstate comming home from work and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and i pulled over it died. I sat for a minuter in disbelief i then again preceded to crank it up it cranked up. i sat for a second put it in gear and preceded to try and drive forward slow i went forward really slow about 20 feet then it died i couldnt get it to turn over again. so i called for my friend we took my brand new battery to walmart to have it charged. went back to the car and put the charged battery in and it started drove it to my friends house and parked it i noticed a lil smoke comming from it and when i got to my friends house i had also noticed a lil bit of oil splatter on my windshield bc i was following behind it. we left the hood up and i went home to think about my options im having it towed to a professional tommarrow to be looked at monday. i noticed just a small bit of oil on the ground ? so what do you guys think ?
 
I agree with what snowborder714 said about the CEL Code, but the only time i've been in a car that cant keep running while in gear driving is when the alternator was bad causing the car to run off the battery, then draining the battery and loosing spark then shuts off. I still say check the small stuff first. If you can start it again, with the car running disconnect one of the battery post and if the car shuts off your alternator is most likely done/dead.
 
i believe it is bc shot bc it caught fire day after it was worked on i was told it may have had oil on it but...? i have it going to shop in about a hour im having it towed :( having alignment and new tie rods and tune up wich it should have gone to the shop from the begining but .. hopefully this time ill get it right im still puzzled by the oil leak...
 
Ive never seen a DSM that doesnt leak oil. Welcome to the wonderful world of DSMS. They are like the evil little business card that hides in your wallet and eats away all of your funds :(


oh boy dont i know now :ohdamn: hopefully the shop can do something with it i think i actually have a hole in the oil pan i have a 6 in clearance on it i will be raising it up once i get it back i bottemed out and i think i did damage to it:ohdamn:...
