Ok so i read up on MAF hack and it looks like it could mess with ## car. So im thinking im not going to take off the honeycomb..But i was to know if i should still cut up the air can?

i woiuld take it out of the can it wont hurt and put a high flow filter on it or look at a 2g set up or the most optimal would be gm maf set up

Just a quick question. Has there been anything bad that comes with cutting the air can? and i removed the silancer (someguy said his filter light was on after ill check that after installed) thanks

don't worry. nothing is going to happen . thats how i have mine(hacked air can ) and if the light comes on just unplug the negative battery cable for a minute and plug it back , the light will go out .

The good is obviously more air flow. The bad, from what I have read, is that your intake temps go up because now the car is sucking in the hot engine bay air. You may want to isolate the area a little.

ya man it wont hert it i have seen people that car running gm maf's put a :tease:sock on the turbo itself and us thats as a filter i dont recomend that thought

True, more air flow and will be sucking up the heat from under the hood causing less denser air to mix with fuel and higher octane levels will be needed due to such. make a baffle or sorts to isolate the open filter from the heat so it will still pick up cooler air that flows in the headlight area..

Also, with more air flow the stock MAF sensor will tell the ECU to have the injectors to shove in more fuel to keep the A/F mixture at the correct ratio - to keep things in a closed loop. So, plan on crappy gas mileage..

I'm keeping my aircan intact to keep things in a closed loop situation..

just remove the aircan completely. If you believe you have some heat problems, then take some metal and petition off around the air filter. there are lots of pics on vfaq. I personally did the 3" DIY setup, works so nicely and sound great. my favorite mod to date

Suggesting a GM MAS and Translator is quite a step for an otherwise-stock 1G formerly driven by his grandmother.

Good info on hacking the aircan here.

Good info on hacking the MAS here.

While you're at it, remove the BCS restrictor.

Be sure to read the posts entirely before attempting the jobs- you cannot repair the MAS easily once it's been hacked.

I did all of these mods to my '92 TSi FWD back in '02 when the car was still stock and noticed quite a "seat of the pant" improvement.

There is no "air filter light".LOL

Make sure you make something to keep hot air from getting pulled in though. My intake air temp was over 120 degrees on my 1g.

I thought you could remove the lower honeycomb without any issues? This is what I always thought to be true. We are talking 1G MAS here.
