I bought a 92 GSX about 6 months ago. New to DSM I read up and learned of VFAQ and simple mods.... Hacking your MAF was one of the "simple beginner mods" I could do.
DO NOT DO THIS MOD !!!!!!!
Since I removed the lower honeycomb of the MAF my car "shudders" under heavy acceleration due to the engine getting more air then counted my the MAF...
I know this is posted in old posts, but wanted a clear and recent post for new owners to see. I have to either switch to the 2g conversion or go buy a 1g again......
Dont make the same mistake I did...:dsm:

I've taken out my lower honeycomb and silencer in my 1g MAF very soon after I got my car. Ever since then, for years now, I've always been wondering why I've been getting 10-15 counts of knock on a stock car with stock boost. I recently got a tuning solution, and richening the car a bit got rid of the knock. What I'm saying is, hacking the MAF makes the car run leaner, and that running lean caused me to knock significantly. There may be something else contributing, as others may have not gotten knock from the same situation, but it's possible and it will push the car toward that direction.

If you add larger injectors and fuel pump, hacking becomes necessary. I have an S-afc but it only modifies the signal a max of 30%. 650's are more than 40% larger than stock. so unless I hack my MAF I won't be able to get an appropriate tune.
