Hey guys so I called around and finally found a shop that could talk to me about 4g63's and knew somewhat about them, so I feel a little more confidant in trusting them. there's also one more shop that's going to call me back to see if they can use a torque plate from a company (renting) but the first shop said to get the short block to where I can assemble it will cost 750-900 for machine work. not including rods and pistons and so forth. I've never had a block worked on yet so I was wondering how you all felt about this price tag. pretty normal? high? should I look around more? sounded like everything was in the quote he mentioned checking for cracks, hot tank, bore, resurface, line hone, blue print, balanced. or should I just try to order one up from a shop a used one off the classifieds scares me a little because I just don't know what condition its in and everything.

It may just be me, but that seems high. I see they are going over everything well but that is just machine work and no head work? And are they assembling the short block for that since they say they are blue printing it? Lets see what others have to say.....

Yeah its a DIY dual clutch setup like a gtr kinda. Lol no, when you try and put 700whp through a single disc clutch it's hard on parts, I like having a spare so I'm not waiting on the machine shop to fix it LOL.

To give you an idea of prices, I went to a reputable 4g63 shop to build my short block.

- Remove freeze plugs, galley plugs, bearings and hot tank block... $65.00

- Port oil passages in block... $60.00
- Crankshaft hot tank, magna flux inspection for cracks, check for straightness, mic journals, polish and wash... $95.00
- Balance rotating assembly... $170.00
- Oil pump disassemble, clean, inspect, debur gears, check clearance, port & polish housing, prelude, and assemble... $60.00
- Short block assy. inspect components, mock up and clearance, check rod/main bearing clearances, check rod side clearance, check pin bore clearance, check deck height, file-fit rings, hang pistons and install into block... $350.00
TOTAL : $1,329
I gave the shop the block, crank, pistons, and rods and had them do the above (which included assembly) and that's what they charged not including tax or shipping. Of course I paid add'l for the front case, bearings, etc. but the above was the machine work/assy. cost outside of the extra parts.
