I have tried searching and have found plenty of info regarding the different types of LSD and what the pros and cons are for all of them. My 96 AWD Talon has the rear VLSD, but I've gathered that it's pretty "useless" by the bashing it gets on here. My question is, for a mainly DD car that wont get much beyond 300AWHP is upgrading any of the LSD a necessity? I live in MI and we get plenty of snow so I want/need the car to handle as effortlessly as possible through the snow without having to worry about binding or "peg-legging" around corners on dry pavement/normal driving. I'm not going to 1/4 mile the car and if the car sees a track it will be rarely on the weekends so I can legally "open up" the car, not compete. If I should upgrade the LSD do I start with the center or rear diff, or should I throw a 1 way up front to get all 4 tires spinning? I was looking at clutch type LSD cause of they're relative inexpensive price range...but learned that they're fairly aggressive when active and have to be replaced quite often. Basically I'm wanting to know if the VLSD is sufficient for DD smooth operation and snow driving or if I need to change one/all of the LSD types to get better/more reliable operation. Any guidance would be appreciated, thanx.
