I wanted to upgrade from the stock T25 to either a 16g or a 14b. What are the necessary upgrades that will allow me to run it at stock boost? Like will I need bigger injectors, fmic, safc/dsmlink, fpr, or a new fuel pump?

You will need the install kit. J-pipe oil lines etc. If you plan on running 2g stock boost then no you don't necessarily need to upgrade anything unless you plan to increase the boost. If you wish to I would recomend 550's a wally 190 or 255(with a good regulator) and a reliable boost gauge.

You'll be perfectly fine with a stock fuel system with the 14b, no tuning required just bolt on and go. You will have to alter the oil feed and coolant lines, I'm not sure about the j-pipe although I'm sure someone can chime in on that. The 16g flows a bit more and will require supporting mods.

Also if you increase the boost you will need an ebc or mbc, and a wideband, you could get away with tuning with SAFC 2, but ECM link is much better.

I don't feel this is absolutely necessary unless he plans on going over 16psi.

Correct for the most part - There are ways to run higher boost levels without a tuning solution - it's been done for years in various platforms. Should it be done? This is debatable. Do we here on tuners recommend it? No. The first upgrade to any vehicle should be a tuning solution, in my opinion. It allows you to tune as you add mods and gain the most out of your car while getting familiar with it.

The biggest challenge with the 14b exchange is that it has a top mounted J pipe opposed to the bottom J from the T-25. So you will have to look into a Kit with an elongated J pipe, preferably one angled towards the Side mount if you are still running it.

Now you will be pushing a bit more flow, so for stock fuel and injector sizes and for a starter, I wouldn't go above 14psi until you've enlightened yourself on how these platforms perform, what it takes to generate power, and the difference in PSI and actual Flow.

So I should look into a Ecmlink then? Also if I increase the boost will I be using more gas more quickly? This is also a commuter car for me.

Boost = More air. ECU compensates by adding more fuel.

When in boost you consume more fuel.

you use more gas dependent on how often you are at full boost. Will you notice a huge difference, no, unless you are at WOT all the time.

That's good to hear thanks! So I'm set with looking for a 14b turbo, mbc, probably a wideband O2, ecmlink or safc, a 255 wally, what about BOV?

Also will I need a FMIC?

For the record I have a boost gauge, hard upper intercooler pipe, injen intake.

The 1G BOV is a good solid BOV that I've personally used, crushed, up to 26+ psi on a T04E.

What are the differences between ecmlink v1, v2, v3, and lite? Also how much do they go for used?

Link 1 and 2 are simply older versions. 3 is the newest and is pretty wonderful. The biggest thing people debate over now is whether or not they want V3 Lite or Full.

This may help you out.

I personally run Lite and have zero complaints with it - it does exactly what I need.

The differences between them are just features. Lite means just the basic and I'm pretty sure the full version comes with SD. Used prices vary and you'll spend less if you already have an EPROM ecu. Just search around on the classifieds and you should be able to find a good deal.

Thanks. So how much should I expect to pay for Lite assuming I'd have to find an eprom 2g manual ecm + socket since I have a 99 eclipse gst.

You can run SD on lite, you can not run the direct gm MAF cable.

Speed Density. Stick with the 1G or 2G MAS to begin with.

You really can just search this forum and find the answers you are looking for.

Obviously you need the install kit, like the one in the ExtremePSI link above.

If you are going with Link V3 Lite, which would be a great first mod, get yourself a UEGO, MBC, 650 or 680cc injectors, a walbro 190 or Evo IX fuel Pump and a pump rewire kit.

In that order would be best.

Will do thanks for the advice.
Would you recommend a 14b or evo 16g though costwise?

16g is certainly superior and very well supported. If you have the cash and think you can be responsible, grab a 16g.

I mean sure you can run it without a tuning system and you can run 30lbs on pump 93, but the end result is the same a blown motor LOL, though how you drive has a lot to do with it as well.

You won't need anything to run at stock boost. I would recommend going for a 16G because you can get an install kit for it and it will give you room to increase boost later when you have other supporting mods. I would also pick up some 550cc injectors to help with the added flow rate the 16g has, a walbro 190 or 255(with a adjustable fuel presssure regualtor). Also a tuning device to go with this although you might not need it if you dont plan on running high boost levels. The 14b is a cheap upgrade and you won't be dissapointed in the performance. The most important question is HP goal.

He said it perfectly, the most important question is HP goal, personally a 14 or 16 ain't enough for me, for a nasty street build get a 20g and it will still mount to the stock mani, but you will defiantly need bigger injectors, and a tune with it.
