I race a 1995 eagle talon esi in the scca autocross; I picked this car becasue it looks aweoms and it was supossed to have tons of low end tourque, the tsi would be pointless in the races because the turbo wouldnt have enough time to wind u. Espically off of the turns is where you need lots of tourque. So far I have a big rear swaybar, rota gt3's, cooper zeons (17in) magna-flo cat back, K&N filers, Bosh plugs and wires. thats about it.. what can i do to get some more low end tourque? :talon:

go with a cold air intake instead of just the air filter. It gives some good low end power.

a 4-2-1 design
I may be wrong but I am pretty sure a 4-1 is much more suitable for low end than the infamous 4-2-1. I got my 4-1 from megan and noticed a bigger difference in lower rpm rage than higher. I am willing to bed 4-1 is more suitable. Im not trying to be a jerk just trying to help.

Okay I'll take your bet, anyone else in on this. If I had time I'd get the proof from DC sports where I bought my headers from. Check the Greddy site too, they all say the 4-2-1 desgin is better for low end torque, the 4-1 design works better in the higher rpms

4-2-1 saves low end; 4-1 gives top end. You might want to think about pulleys. UDP gives a little quicker response. Possibly lighten flywheel (aluminum or just lightened). Obviously the sticky clutch is needed. I have seen various arguments about tire size. you might want to look into a 16" tire. It allows you to change your overall ratio (quicker spin). Though I can guarantee you that someone else will say no go with a bigger tire for more traction. This is one of those things that generally go both ways. Just my dos centavos.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I would diffenately go for the UDP, You will notice much better acceleration when you put it on. I uded the AFX. works great. MAde my car louder too for some odd reason....hmm

Great suggestions in this thread but just to recap:

Underdrive pulley
Cold-Air Intake
4-2-1 Header
Maybe a different size wheel

I think you should also add after the cold-air intake is a 55mm TB. It gives my car a lot better throttle response when I come out of the corners.

Well, not all of my suggestions are low-end power related, but should all help in your corner exit speeds nonetheless.

Not sure what is available for your car, but if you can find a lower final drive gearing it will definately help, as would reduced diameter tires/wheels and a limited-slip differential. As for bolt-on, a 4-2-1 header will help. Don't go too large on exhaust diameter since you're N/A. Also stiffen up your motor mounts. On a non-power but related point, rig up a bracket to keep the master brake cylinder from moving when you depress the brake to firm up pedal presponse.

Check your porting -- smooth things to about a 220-grit texture on the intake side (don't enlarge, just smooth) and smooth out the exhaust porting (make sure that the welds where the primaries on the header meet the head that there are no ridges and match up the gasket/head/header.

And as always, reduce the weight of the car as much as you can. One word of caution is to keep an eye on the weight distribution as you do this, since too many people shave way too much weight off the rear of the car which will kill your handling. If you remove extra weight in the back and it throws off your handling, you can add weight where you want it rather than where it came from the factory. Obvious places to look at weight savings are stripping out the power steering and AC. If you pull the power steering, make sure to install a manual rack (from a car without P/S) and you will have less weight up front and much more consistant steering.

As far as corner exit speeds go, try to get the best corner-balance that you can, and since I'm assuming that you're driving a stick, modify your pedals if needed to allow comfortable heel-toe shifting which will allow you to keep RPMs up through the corners, as well as reduce the weight-shift from a rough shift so you can go into the corner at a higher speed and thus have higher speed on the exit.

my cold air intake helped the low end alot... the best low end improvement was my catback... that helped my low end tremendously but my top end would still top out early... after i installed my 4-1 header, my top end had the most noticeable improvement out of all my mods, after adding the header, although the header to improve the low end even more i have to say the header made an incredible difference in the high end.

Be sure to get 4-2-1 b/c when i got my 4-1, it is almost like i lost a little bit of the low end... It improved the top end a bunch but u dont need that as much for auto-x. Mine is just basically for show since my car is just a daily driver that i like to get onto from time to time.
