Low-Buck 1G Fresh Air/Ram Air Intake

Put together a Ram Air/Freash Air intake on my '91 GSX for about $15 using the stock SMIC ducting (I no longer have the stock side mount IC) some dryer ducting, scrap ploycarb sheet, and some fabrication.

I carefully cut the polycarb sheet to fit the back of the stock duct so the round dryer duct would fit it. Routed it up into a hole I cut under the MAF air filter, where the original IC piping was, and attached the dryer ducting. A little spray paint prettied it up a bit and blended it in a little.

While technically not "Ram Air" because it's not sealed to the MAF, it does provide for a constant flow of fresh cool air while moving. It should also provide a slightly positive pressure to displace any hot under-hood air around the filter.

Nice, I did the same thing but mine its seald. I didn’t know it wasnt a ram air until it was sealed. Good to know.
Im sure it does help tremendously with intake temps, looks good!!

No. I should probably get a cheap thermometer just to measure the inake air at the filter and compare to under-hood temps.

I think technically Ram Air is funneling or routing direct, outside 'cool' air to the intake in a sealed manner so there some gains from positive pressure, which couldn't happen if it wasn't sealed.

You can get some cheap dual-iat gauges, I believe prosport made them. I've debated doing this on mine to check ambient, post-turbo-pre-I/C, then use my GM IAT as-is to check efficiency.
