I have a loud clicking/ ticking coming from my car. My brother in law heard it from a distance when he was leaving and said it was most likely my lifters. Does anyone know what it could be? It sounds like it's coming from around the fuel rail area but not sure. The best I can explain it is a loud ticking or clicking. If anyone can help please do. Thanks.

Could easily be lifter tick. Our engines are known for it.
Do a search on the subject and there are numerous ways of solving this problem.

Good luck.

Ya thats what I thought. I have heard of this problem in our cars. But I didn't know it got that loud. My buddy has a DSM as well and his ticks but mine sounds way louder. I'll do asearch on the forums and see if I come up with anything. If anyone can give me a link to any forums regarding lifter tick please let me know. Thanks.

Its lifter tick fo sho. Im with you mine is loud as hell. I cant even here my exhaust over it.

Try changing the oil. Or if you really wanted it to go away you could swap a set of revised lifters in.

Last time I changed my oil I dropped in some Lucas Oil Stabilizer. The ticking has been in my dam mind so much that I don't even remember if it helped any. Im due in about 800 miles again, I kinda just want to change the oil now and add some Lucas to see if it helps. Also when I do add lucas, how much should i put? Is that can of Restorer at any Advanced Autoparts /NAPA /Atutozone/ etc.? Thanks

i think i might be in the same boat. over the past week my oil light has popped on/off at least three times and last nite there was a tapping noise under the hood. this morning its louder. what the ###? i ain't driving it until i have an idea of what it is and how to fix it. one thread said collapsed lifter or rod bearing. another said oil pump sending unit. anybody?

Probably, call and see. Virtually every dsmer who has put Restorer in had his ticking go away including me (search the forum and you'll see). It is also blessed by Defiant himself. Not everyone who used Lucas had the same result. I highly recommend Restorer with an oil change (if you're not replacing lifters which is the permanent fix but pricey). Mine cleared up right away, others reported it took couple days.

When ticking gets too loud, it usually indicates that you have a collapsed or blown (won't pump-up) lifter. 3G lifters are a permanent (somewhat) solution to the problem.

I believe it is more than just your ordinary ticker noise because it seems like my cars performance was effected as well. So I'm pretty sure I'll have to get new ones. Anyone got an idea on the price? New and used. Thanks.

Topline sells 3G (revised) lifter for $7.49 a piece I believe.

This is how i can best describe the car: the turbo spools up fine but the car itself feels like it drags to get going. When i push the gas a little and start to go i can hear the ticking get a little louder and faster. Stupid question but simple answer, how many lifters do our cars have? (95 tsi fwd) Also if i do get new ones would it be good to lube them with Lucas or Restorer or something when putting them in? Thanks.

Thought it was a lifter per valve but just making sure. Alright thanks for the advice and answers guys. I think im gonna go ahead and buy some new or used 2g revised or 3g lifters. Thanks again.
