looking for a good turbo for pump

fp green is said to spool slightly slower than a 16g. Also the probability of him hitting 450 or even 400 with the fp green is much higher than either of those 2 turbos on pump. On a 2.0 the green is fully spooled by 4k. That will be faster than the td06h 20g and make more power than the td05. For what he is looking for it is a great candidate. So are the holsets. However holsets require much more modification to run.

Ahh....so we're not basing this on facts, this is hearsay. :rolleyes:


Here are the facts- the FP Green's compressor is larger than a 20G...so if you're comparing a TD06H 20G to a FP Green, two turbos with identical turbine specs, the Green is going to spool slower as a result of the larger compressor wheel. The Green's spool would be more similar to the TD06H 20G than the TD05H 20G or Evo III 16G.


The only statement you've made so far which I agree with is that the Green will make 400-450whp better on pump gas.
 
i agree with you, sorry my SPOOL estimates were slightly off, it is known for MOST people to see 24psi by about 4000rpms or so and that is hear say but thats all i have for now, i am receiving my green this week and putting it on my 2.4l so spool will be decreased and wont be accurate for this argument, its also relative to what gear you are using to say what it spools at. Sure my evo 3 spooled at 2400 rpmps but that was in 5th gear. All im saying is that it is a direct fit turbo, more efficient than the 20g and will net the horsepower goals much easier. No oil drain modification or radiator fan issue with the green which there are with the holsets which would be my other favorite for what he is looking for. Sound correct this time around
 
I think the Green is a great turbo as well- it combines the airflow of the T04E50 with MHI reliability, but some are going to argue the price for what you're receiving.

I believe the best turbo to get the O.P. near his goal while remaining fairly quick-spooling is going to be the TD05H 20G, or possibly the FP 68HTA depending on what he's looking to spend.
 
just noticed he was using an automatic, i was talking to lucas at english racing in washinton and was going to buy his fp green off of their little auto because he thinks he can make better times off of the 68hta. His reasoning for this was based off of peak power with the turbo and where it switches gears i believe. So take that for what it is and maybe lucas will chime in on this.

...BECAUSE the 68HTA uses a TD05H turbine. ;)

The 68HTA has a lighter rotating assembly than the Green, and also reaches a higher peak rotating speed than the Green because of the smaller wheel diameters. The 68HTA would be more efficient than a Green for an automatic based on the shift points and the ability to brake-boost better.
 
that an automatic would make better use of the 68hta because its generates more power at 5800 rpms?

cause i agree with you there, i didnt realize he was using an automatic until a 2 posts back. With a manual i would still suggest the green. He is talking about power after all and not 1/4 mile times :)
 
understood, i guess my question for the OP now is is he looking for a certain drag time or on max power, cause with an automatic it wont take full advantage of the higher rpm power of a bigger turbo. So 400 might be a different goal than a goal for a drag time
 
Im looking more for power than anything else. Money is somehwere around 1k for this turbo dont need to be crazy since its my DD. Thanks for the input everyone.
 
get yourself a sbr g50. its way under your budget. you can use the rest of your money for a water/meth kit and 400hp. should be no problem to hit.
 
I liked the power when the FP green turbo hit, but it was kinda late for my tastes.

the last turbo i ran was the best that i used on the Talon, a Garrett 3076 with a .48 AR. TDO5 Dejon housing

I had 22 PSI by 3300 rpm, it was crazy. and like 390 whp on 91 pump.

With an automatic and a DD some other considerations have to be made for sure. The turbo needs to come on close to the converter stall to work really well.

A 2871R Garrett would work bitchin on that, easy 360 hp, and almost zero lag.
 
for those goals that you have i honestly feel that the 68hta would be the best with the automatic, early spool, great power and right at your price limit, you might not be reaching the 400 mark on pump with it but it will be more driveable becasue you will have more useful boost or for the automatic

You're better-off buying something that is actually Garrett-based instead of a Kinetic imitation, although there are plenty of turbos out there with better durability than both of these options. :thumb:
 
FP said that the 20g housing is set up for T3 manifold but could be swapped to a 14b or 16g to fit. Should i just swap to a T3 manifold or swap the housing. I also thought that my turbo is smaller a 13b would that housing still work?

Swap the housing- use a 7cm turbine housing from a 16G ONLY. A 6cm 14B housing will not flow enough, and the TD04 13G housing will not fit.
 
You people CLEARLY did not read what the guy asked. He is looking for a PUMP GAS turbo. Not what will meet his power goals. You certainly need to look at "larger" turbos to meet your pump gas goals. Please stay away from anything smaller than a 50 trim.
 
I went from a E316G to a TD05H 20g, and to be perfectly honest - I didn't really notice the difference in spool time, it was still extremely fast and hit a lot harder than the E316G. Lots of timing and e85 make the TD05H 20g a BEAST on the street at 25 ~ 28psi.
