1G Longshot...hatch glass lower edge trim clips available?

Hello DSM crew... the 92 Eclipse GS 5 speed my dad bought in 1998 or so is back in my life after a 6 year stint with another guy. I'm working on restoring a bunch of stuff for my mom including a rear hatch leak.

Ive narrowed it down to not the wiper motor grommet, spoiler bolts or glass itself.

At the base of the rear glass where it meets the hatch deck are maybe 7 plastic clips that are pseudo-screwed into the hatch deck and (30 yrs ago) apparently sealed to the deck with some felt or rubber that is returned to dust and the water is dripping off the part of the clip that protrudes into the inside of the decklid. The trim strip that covers the end of the glass clips onto these. Half the clip is under the glass so you can't just pop them out and reseal them.

Does anyone know what this part is called or how to find a part number for them? I'm thinking about trying to buy replacements and glue them down forever but I will have to get a pro glass installer to come out and remove the glass and install it again. So far I cant find ANYTHING about these clips. I have my 92 BMW in the garage too so I'm familiar with struggling to find parts for cool old cars but hoping to come out on top here with a little help! Thanks!

I don’t know the part number but 99.9% sure they’re discontinued, but I talked to dsm 3D creations at the shootout and I believe they are working or possibly have already some 3D printed

A lot of these window clips seem to be crispy from years of service. Even with care, I cracked a few of mine while disassembling the trim. I found some replacements for my Talon off a ‘92 Laser at a local pick and pull, but most of them were also equally crispy. I had to use near surgical precision to get them off without damaging them.

The clips are not made anymore that I know of, but at some point, the use of small dabs of urethane adhesive will probably be the best way to secure the trims. A lot of folks are already going this route due to messed up clips.

The window itself has a full bead of urethane sealant under the perimeter. You might be able to solve the issue by use of some silicone or urethane sealant. I know this isn’t the “ideal” authentic fix, but unless you’re willing to go digging across the yards, I imagine this is your next best solution. Let us know what you go with!

I think I can get at least one free in good shape. Since part of the clip goes up under the glass, it will have to have those legs cracked off to release it but in my estimation that part is of no real value. I will try to get one off and PM you about this.

Yes very...I think there may be an opportunity to simplify the part considerably by making it solid without the hinge feature I.e. only having the locked position. Honestly I cant tell why it needs to open and close the way it does.

I have never seen one attached. I assume since it has a screw in there its to allow room for that and then comes over to lock and something attach to it

Ahhh yes of course Youre right. I had to open it to remove the screw. Perhaps a reproduction should be two parts that snap together replacing the live hinge with a snap fit.

I did and see a lot of places claiming in stock but not sure I believe it. I wonder if they are junkyard takeoffs (maybe better than nothing) or NOS parts. The DSM community believes this part to be NLA right?

No longer made but sometimes places still have leftover stock - especially for low turnover items. I know what you mean by claiming it's in stock when it isn't, which is all too common. Call the places and insist they check if its really in stock. It's in their best interest also (otherwise they will have to go through a refund process which is not pretty for them either).

doing it as a double is possible i think. at least in the NON injection molded form for ease and cracking side of things.

Wow very nice! I'm not a real big DSM guy but like I said this car has been in my family since I was in 1st grade and I'm 32 now so I'm happy to see this community is still actively developing products to keep these cars running.
