locked 3rd gear but shifter moves

Ok so like the title says my trans is locked in 3rd. I can get it into every gear, but when i let the clutch out it dies. It doesnt matter what gear it is in it will die. Unless im in 3rd gear then it moves. I havent pulled the trans out yet to take it apart. All linkage is hooked up and everything is in good working order except the trans being stuck in gear. Thanks for any help.

You broke the 3-4 shift rail. The reason it stalls is due to the fact that it is in 3rd gear right now. If you put it into another gear, you are then in 2 gears at the same time, which means the trans can't turn.

OK so jack how much is the part I need I pulled trans out of a 91 talon. Tried calling you guys earlier but no answer.
