how do i tell which lifters are which i bought a head that has mysterious lifters in it and i cannot tell what they are they have the big hole on the top and look different then my stock 1g lifters

They updated the lifter design later on for whatever reason. Some people will say for better flow so they don't collapse, but the bigger hole is where the oil exits. Internally they still need to hold a lot of pressure. People will say the newer lifters are better just because they bought them to replace old lifters and their lifter tick stopped. Of course any BRAND NEW lifter is going to not tick and work better than an old one that doesn't work. They all work the same, don't worry.

ok so im starting to think they are 3g which would be sweet ### free 3g lifters work for me ill post pictures when i get home

They work the same as any other lash adjuster and won't last any bit longer just because of a bigger drain hole. Keeping fresh oil and keeping it cool is what helps lifters last.

Don't they also prevent lifter tick?

No, I said before they don't. That happens from age, lack of keeping the oil changed, or lack of oil pressure. They aren't magical. No one here can be a spokesperson for Mitsubishi and say why they redesigned them. I hold it as superstition and a sales gimmick when then say they prevent or get rid of lifter tick. The hole that feeds them with oil is exactly the same size, so they aren't going to be any higher in pressure. And since they are going to have to maintain the same pressure inside of them the bigger hole isn't going to make any difference. I believe they MIGHT have made the hole bigger because of people not changing oil caused the vent to clog with coked oil. If you keep the oil maintained any lash adjuster will serve you well. Even clogged ones can be renewed by soaking them in laquer thinner and working them until everything is clean. That's the part I see as a gimmick, "hey buy these new lifters instead of spending a few bucks for laquer thinner and having some patience."

well thanks for the info i think im just gonna run the 3g lifters then since i already have them and they were free
