so when does the 1g maf become a restriction or "problem" when it comes to HP? when will an upgrade be needed if it is at all? thanks

im looking at a 20G setup for the long term plans so i take it the 1gmaf will only go so far with that setup....what options do i have to overcome this? i know a 2g maf is a start but not much from there. thanks

Well, you have a few options. 1. You can go with a maf-t + gm maf, mafs are easy and cheap to replace, you can vent if you wish, but I've heard of issues with inconsistent tuning. 2.You can go with a standalone, aem, haltech, or my personal favorite: Megasquirt. Completely erases the maf, but its gonna cost some $$$ (or only 200 for the MS :) )and even more $$$ to tune it. Or 3. The route I'm going: DS-MAP. Its a re-write of the ecu which converts it to speed density. You need some gm sensors, an ostrich and a socketed ECU. Not as many goodies as a 'full' standalone, but its much easier to get up and running, and you get the advantage of plug and play with your stock harness.

i listed it as that because i kinda street race and i know a GOOD amount of people on here which is why my locations dont match up either....there is a method to my madness LOL.

But when does the Hz signal of the 1g (and 2g) become unreliable (what airspeed)? You can deal with fuel cut with a chipped ECU or DSMlink, but I imagine the speed sensor has a limit (the IAT and baro sensors shouldn't).

The sensors become a limit when you start flowing a certain amount of air(hz) not when you make a certain amount of power. I will try to find somebody on link forums that over ran a 1g maf but I doubt I will since most people on there upgrade to a gm maf before its limits.
