^^Yeah, the 3- 8 diff is the same part number, and the cover fits the 1G and 2G housing. I got the cover for mine cause the factory cover was already junk. Its a very nice piece. Just make sure you get it with the bearing and race cause the factory bearing wont fit the TRE cover.

    Just for everyone's information.
I've had clearance issue with the TRE HD LSD side cover and Frontline Fabrication machined Diff cover.
I had to remove some material for the LSD side cover to clear.

I have a 2G non LSD diff housing, I'm assuming all 2G housing will have clearance issue as well.

    Regards!

But no clearance issue with the stock diff housing cover? Hmm, maybe FLF could incorporate the extra required clearance into their 2G covers if you and others make them aware? I was just thinking about grabbing one of those covers myself, but unfortunately, Ive got other priorities at this time so itll have to wait. Any 1G guys have the Evo diff, TRE side cover and a FLF diff housing cover with any clearance trouble?

I can't comment on stock diff housing cover because my car is not with me, I outsourced all of the work since I don't have much time and I want fully utilize the short racing season we have in Quebec. All I know is that a very reputable DSM mechanic gave me the heads up... after he installed the diff cover he couldn't turn the Diff because it wasn't clearing the side cover. I'm sure others with the same setup can comment.

    MOOOOOAAARRRR!!!

HAHHAHAA....so much win in this thread. I was looking high and low for information now I know.

Thanks to anyone that contributed. Took me hours to read everything and follow every link. :D

Sooooo....my use is a +600HP ST classed track car. I'm entering it into a 1000KM endurance race that should last about 10 hours. Lots of power and long ass race needs some top parts that are tailored to my needs.

IMHO I need the EVO8 with the 12 pack upgrade in the NonLSD 2G DSM pumpkin with non-lsd axles. I want to get the Adelia Magic Coupling with a 4 spider center diff in a Stage 5 Jacks.

The last thing I am missing still is the front diff. I would like a 1-1.5 way clutch LSD but failing finding that will leave it open. The Helical type would be terrible to try and control for 10 hours. Throttle off understeer is scary sh!t.

    Toronto,
I recommend ATS front diff from an EVO 3. You can get a 1.5way diff from them and choose from there different types based on how aggressive you want it. I just bought there rear diff. I've yet to use it but the part in my hands looks like quality.

I agree throttle off understeer scares me!

Tym from TMZ is aware of this and has communicated this to Andrew from Frontline.

Just thought I would add a pic for you guys of some of the inner cv for the 2g . From left to right dss passenger, dss driver side, dss Evo 8 and oem.The bearings/races were not interchangeable between the stage 5 axles and the evo 8,the evos races were bigger and would not fit in the stage 5 axle cups.

Sorry, I may have missed something, but do any of the 2g inner axle ends engage properly into an EVO diff installed in a 1g/2g housing?

If I can avoid buying any more overpriced Evo 8 axles, that would be grrreeeat.

The 2g inner axle spline is about 1" shorter than the evo 8, you can see in photo above, so you will not get the proper spline engagement.

was the 2g non-LSD any different? I don't know where (maybe in this thread somewhere?) but I thought someone said 2G non-LSD axles work.

Also, I asked the DSS guy about evo3 axles, he likes to classify axle ends by spline count on the bar... I think he even does it by spline count on the outboard side. In any case, he says he has some for 32 spline bars, and the evo8 axles I got previously had 30 splines. Should I be concerned about this, are the tripod bearings still the same? I'd assume so.

2G non LSD works and it's confirmed by TRE
    TRE DSM REAR DIFFERENTIAL SERVICE

I would be surprised that there's 1" difference between 2G non LSD and EVO8 but I didn't measure it... so does someone have these parts laying around?

    Regards!

Yeah, the 2G non LSD inner cup does indeed work, and is longer than the shorted 2G LSD axle but the problem is, you cant just swap the cups onto a 2G LSD axle cause the tripod is dramatically different. I have been trying to get my hands on 2G OE axles to measure and test fitment, but so far have only gotten ahold of a non LSD cup without the rest of the axle. Aftermarket, high performance stuff is different as well, so if one were wanting to purchase DSS axles or whatnot for use with the EVO LSD, I suppose all youd have to do is tell em you want inboards to fit onto the 2G axle and into the EVO LSD whilst retaining the proper overall length of a 2G axle.

Can you just swap the 2G non LSD tripod bearing assy. onto a 1g/2g LSD axle shaft?

That's funny everyone with non LSD dsm is swapping to viscous type LSD rear ends, I would assume non LSD axles cup and diff would be easy to find, I actually have 2 spare set which I'm not selling because of my HP level. People don't realize that non LSD DSMs can upgrade to EVO clutch type for cheap. if your lucky enough to find a cheap EVO lsd.

For the folks interested this guy has one EVO3 left at under 200$ with shipping I bought from him before it took 5 days shipping to my door.

I already have a spare one I feel like a 3rd would be unfair to others who needs that cheap upgrade.

is the outboard side of the non-LSD axle the same as LSD? Same from 1g to 2g?

1G and 2G rear axles on the hub side are completly different.
    1Gs have 4 or 3 bolt flanges.
2Gs/EVO8 slides in the hub with an axle nut.

Have you actually used one of these random imported Evo Diffs, Xray? I'm thinking about it.

The Evo 3- 8 LSD is the same part number. I actually made a writeup on this swap, though some of my pics didnt come up in the proper places or at all and I need to get in there and fix it up at some point. If I were you, Id snatch that dif up in a heartbeat cause thats the cheapest Ive ever seen one in all my searches over the time I was looking, and they are harder and harder to get. Hell, the money you save on the dif in this case allows you to buy a set of axles at even high prices and still come out well. Put it this way, Ive got almost 1000.00 in mine with the dif, Evo axles I bought to rob the inboard cups from, and a TRE side cover and bearings and new side gear and pinion seals.

I have one in my car from that seller came in 5 days to Montreal Canada from Malaysia in conjunction with the weir 16 clutch pack upgrade and TRE side cover and Frontline Fab diff cover. I would also like to add that Jon from TRE told me the casting from those early EVOs are better than the later ones.

I would also like to add that EVO1 and EVO2s also might have clutch type diff depending of the option.

    Regards!

I've posted this many times but apparently it bears repeating - 2G details only :
    1) Non-LSD inner cups are different and not interchangeable with 2G LSD cups, either side, 3 different splines.
    2) Non-LSD inner tripods/bearings are different and not interchangeable with 2G LSD tripods/bearings - different splines and sizes.
    3) Non-LSD axle shafts are not interchangeable with LSD axle shafts - different inner splines.
    4) All outer joins are interchangeable, they are physically identical, however the ABS ring cannot be swapped onto a non-ABS joint, the profile is subtly different and cannot be machined to work as the housing is too weak. 1st hand knowledge of this.
    5) Non-LSD inner joints are externally dimensionally identical to Evo 3-9 joints, so they fit an Evo rear diff fine.
    6) Evo rear diff can be built into any 2G DSM rear diff housing, LSD or not.
    7) The OEM VC rear LSD will not fit into a non-LSD housing - the housings are subtly different.
