Do any of you guys make your own? $400 is out of my price range and I was thinking of mocking up a quick plate out of sheetmetal and welding it in. It wold only serve to stop all the oil splashing out of the bottom on those hard right turns. The motor is out anyways and on the stand so it would not be that hard right?

What are your opinions on this?

sorry this is for my 96 Rs. These 420a cars have no baffles in the oil pan and it sucks. I just am finishing this rebuild and I dont wanna turn too sharp and spin a bearing or something. The only pre made solution to this is to buy a $400 baffle tray design.

I know some where on the internet they are made I think on ebay can't remember but its like 40 bucks. You have to keep in mind if you made your own you will deal with clarence issues thats why those ones are 400 its not that simple. Like always said you get what you pay for.

The just stop building the 420a. I for one am getting a little tired of your cut corners attitude. Dont you think that if it were that easy to just go make your own, 90% of us would have done that by now? Look at the skittle guys.. DCR seels them some perforated mesh and calls that a scraper..PFT.. IF you are doing something , do it right or do it twice. Im sorry you feel 400$ is too much to do something right.. If 400$ is to much, building a car isnt for you. Try model cars.

Get the IJ cranks scraqper and baffle setup. EBAY has knock offs if you really want to give them a shot, which i stongly discourage. Kevin @ IJ has put a lot fo his own time and money in making these, and making them very well. His level of craftsmanship is very very high. Like said above, you get what you pay for. Buys a knock off or attemting to make your own is a little bit disrespectful. The big issue with this platform is "whaaa no one makes anything for our car" , but when they do , its "whaa its too expensive". For what your building, i woundnt even worry about it....SMH.

BTW, if you have even seen the WHOLE baffle tray and windage setup, you would know where the 400$ is.. Quite honestly, im surprised they are not more, considering the tools and R@D that went into it..

If its not that hard then go for it...why ask us.

GL with your "build".

What the hell is wrong with you? You are getting tired of my "cut corners attitude"? How am I cutting corners? I didn't say I didn't understand how they came to $400, I said I just don't have the money right now. I have my 1999 gst swapped to Awd that I spend a lot on and do everything right with. This is my 96 rs that I bought with a spun bearing and am just doing a stock rebuild. Now there was nothing in the pan from factory so whatever I do is better than nothing right? I am not auto crossing with it or anything but was like "hey while it's out I could do something better than factory". So don't start your bs in this thread because I did nothing cut corners and of you wanna be an asshole go complain to other people who don't have that windage tray setup.

If you are not going to race the car then dont even bother. Only on 1 occasion have I seen oil pressure drop off as a result of the oil sloshing in the pan. They are not needed for DD conditions.

Ebay Link: Thats just a scraper, and a poor knock off. There is a big differnce betwween a scraper, and the whole setup.

1. Whats wrong with me? my first guess would be Alot.... You dont cut corners, yet your to lazy tosiphon old fuel out...? Kind of contradictory. Im more aiming at your posts that could have been answered with searching. Granted you searched here (good for you- non sarcastic).

2. I treat others who ask beaten questions the same way, peple need to be a little more self reliant, since theres a wealth of info...

3. I dont care about your gst/X swap.. Kinda a bolt on afair.

4. Yes, your right, it is a good thing to do "while your there". If its a stock rebuild, you dont need to worry about it. The scraper wont do anything for you its the Tray and baffles that do the work. But again, DD, dont waste the effort or cash.

Sorry i came off as an asshole, but you already know what the solution is, Either buy one, or dont.. Pretty clear. If you think you can make one, go for it. I will say this, your not as bad as others on here (which i treat the same way) So, ill offer an appology for being an asshole, this time ;). I all honesty, i thought you were building for boost, thats why I hauled off..

I am not looking for an all out design or a crank scraper. I was just planning on making a "shield" just above the pickup tube to make sure oil is always there. Just so on the hardest turns the oil would not move away. I'm talking like 5 seconds max of just keeping oil there.

Glowryder, apology excepted. The thing with the fuel is that I am not too lazy to siphon it out I just didn't think doing that would be able to get all the crap Out. I am gonna give it a shot though. The lazy way to do it would be to just put stabilizer in and run it as is. I will post pictures of this rebuild and you will see it is very uncut corners. If anything I am anal and just every little thing bothers me and even though this is just a stock rebuild I don't like the empty oil pan. Think of it like just tryin to copy the 4g63 oil pan. Nothing like a crank scraper just something to keep oil at the pickup.

It would need either a door or Alot of slits for oil to move back and forth. You still want some movement, other wise you may get some funky thermal issues with the oil. It just needs to be "restricted". Really, you should do the head oil mod, and call it a day. It would keep more oil in the pan , vs in the head draining down the block. Our return Oil ports are too smal for the ungody amount of oil that sits in the head for no reason. Thats another huge factor on why we have issues. The Oil restictor should keep more Oil in the pan , and thus not need a baffle/trap door sytem.
