Leaking fuel here

Earlier today, The car had been off for about a good hour, and out of the blue, i smelled gas. So i pop my hood to find out that there is pressure from the fuel filter to the fuel rail, and with pressure comes fuel. It dripped 1 drop a second for about 5-10 and it went away.
I boosted a lil bit. I seem to notice that when i boost more than average, it tends to leak.

So what can I do? I sure hope this isnt normal.

I think the previous owner of my car had upgraded his fuel rail and in time, he put the stock one back on to sell it. Not sure if that plays a factor.

Sounds like you might need a new o-ring at least. It fits on the side going to the fuel filter to seal it to the rail.

do forget to depressurize your fuel system before you take that off to replace the o-ring

Thats what I was thinking. An o-ring. I cant seem to find it at any auto-parts store. Is there a specific name for these lil buggers??

edit: according to vfaq, its the fuel pump to the fuel rail. The fuel pressure sender too. The puts are up there, if someone can help me narrow out my problem.

The Mitsubishi part number for the one on the fuel line is MB554317. The one for the other end of the fuel rail on the regulator is MD604696.

Searching where? Those are the part number from the dealer. They're cheap just call the closest dealer and pick them up.

If it's the o-ring that leaking, yes. If the rail or fitting are fubar, no.

How do i depressurize the fuel system so I can install the o-ring? Also, its just a piece of gasket I stick in between the rail and bronze pipe piece? Is there any guide for this install?

edit: Called mitsubishi and none of them carry the parts. I could order them but it'll take a week, and i'd like to install asap. Does autozone, pepboys, or napa carry these parts??

Disconnect the fuel pump and try to start the car or just leave it overnight.
The o-ring goes on the fitting and fits inside the fuel rail.

Remove the two bolts.
Remove the old o-ring.
Lube fitting and new o-ring with motor oil
Roll it onto the fitting until it seats in groove.
Insert fitting into fuel rail.
Torque bolts to 3.6 ft lbs (5 Nm)
Pressure test fuel system and check for leaks.

I just came back from my dad's friend's shop.

was the culprit. Damn O-ring.

He replaced it with some other green ring. After pushing it hard, there are no leaks as of yet.

Ramming it in dry is never fun. :thumbdown

PO = previous owner.

To make sure that doesn't happen again, always lube it lightly with WD-40 before putting the fitting on.

The FSM calls for motor oil and that's what I use. WD40 has too much solvent in it for my liking. I don't keep any around since PB Blaster does such a better job freeing rusted stuff.

hi I am having a leak here also, tried replacing the o-ring worked for awhile then started leaking again. any1 running a larger o-ring? or another solution? if so where did you get it/ what did you do?. i had to go to a Diesel truck fuel injector shop to even be able to find an o-ring similar to the OEM size..

The parts listed in the thread are still available from a Mitsubishi or Chrysler dealer as well as online.

Guys....he is hand feeding you here. Get the proper o-ring and move on. Its a very simple connection. Mitsu dealer or on line and have them delivered. Nothing on a DSM is cheap.
