I agree that the clicking noise you're experiencing is most likely related to the CV, but to answer your second question, the wheel bearing carries the weight of the wheel and allows it to spin without wearing the spindle.

Check the axle shafts, could get new ones or rebuild (cv boots, grease, etc..) If there is no lube and they look jacked you will be able to tell when the boots are off, thats if they aren't torn or ripped already.
wheel bearings, ball joints, check all the components. Take it to a trustworthy shop or find a dsm mechanic in the area.

I have a 2g that has a knocking noise that is fairly loud on the driver side front. It happens when I am going straight even not when I am turning. I replaced the brakes and inner tie rods I thought that was it bc the boots were broken and also the cv boots are fine they have never been broken so what could it be? I replaced the passenger side wheel bearing when it was bad but I don't think that is it.

Is it a sound that happens in rotation? Like a pebble stuck in your tire?

Or is it when you hit bumps?

If it's the first its something to do with the rotor/caliper/dust shield

Usually if its the latter, I'd check wheel bearing and the ball joint on the lower/later control arms.. the nuts tend to back out with age creating like a 1/4" space between the joint and the control arm which in turn creates a hellish knocking sound when whilst driving over bumps.

I'd get under there and start tugging on control arms, tierod, axle etc. etc. to check for play. In most cases any play is bad.

It could be coming from the brakes bc I changed them a couple weeks a ago and this noise is new

I'd get the front end back up in the air and on stands. Go back over your brake job and look for anything that might point you in the right direction. You won't know until you get back in there and try to pinpoint whats going on.
