I just recently bought a 2g dsm connector kit and was wondering how the pins are suppose to go. The new knock sensor I bought has 2 pins and my harness has a white wire that shielded by strands of other wire, is that the ground? does it need a pin to connector to the new knock sensor?

The wire inside the white insulation is the signal wire. The shielding on the outside completes the circuit and acts as a ground. Referencing user 'bryanwheat' from this thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/soldering-knock-sensor-pigtail.436406/

"The shielding is the ground wire for the circuit. Strip the outer insulator off about an inch and a half and pull the shielding wire back and twist it together. Now strip the inner signal wire about a half an inch. From there solder the signal wires together and tape or heat shrink. From there solder the shielding wire to the ground side of the plug and than tape or heat shrink that."

Personally I would advise for you to try and get a complete knock sensor with its wire and plug undamaged. It's a really fragile yet precise piece of electronics so you wouldn't want to mess with it too much. I've tried fixing a ripped one before but I wasn't as lucky. Good luck!
