Knock Sensor Check Engine Question

I Bought this 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T and it seems the check engine lights comes on every now and again during casual driving which i ended up finding out that it is the knock sensor. So i left off the gas till it goes away then back on and it pops up every now and again. Sometimes more often than others. Is this a bad thing?

Replace it if its bad and check for codes.

It does not stay on to check for codes. It goes away from time to time.

OK check it anyway its a easy fix if it's' bad. I Get cels that go away a code is in there somewhere.
