When I was diagnosing my code 31 Detonation sensor issue, I found that the previous owner had wire tied the sensor to the wiring harness rather than having it installed in the engine block. I have tried searching for reason why someone would do this but I don't even know what I am looking for. The car appears to be very well built and the sensor was nicely secured to the harness with multiple wire ties. It was not simply "left out."

So I ask; why would someone remove the knock sensor from the block and just leave it hanging in the wiring harness?

Obviously the ECU can't detect knock without that sensor. Perhaps to hide a knocking issue from a buyer, or thinks he does not need a knock sensor for some odd reason? Put it on the block and plug it in.
