Is it true that if you have a cel and the code comes back knock sensor this means that either the sensor is bad or there is a bad ground , is this true ? Mine comes on after running for around a minute , than I turn the car off start it back up and after another minute it comes back on again . Bad sensor?

Bad sensor or detonation. That's about it. Whatever you do, don't back that sensor out in case it is detonation. Go for a ride and see how she drives. Will probably be slower due to the car "seeing knock". Then check the plugs for sign of detonation. If you don't see any, it's probably the sensor or ground.

If you replace the sensor and the car still seems slow, and you're sure the sensor is installed to spec, you can then reset the ECU to get your timing back.

Thanks for the reply . What I have learned for the last two days is that engine knock will not set the check engine light off period. It is in my case caused by a bad sensor . Thank you all . Pyrometer installed

Hey Buridude, When your knock sencer was bad did your car die repetidly after starting and sometimes after a short drive? I am throwing a knock sencer code and this is what mine does. Where is the ground for the sencer because I cant find it? Otherwise I plan on getting a new sencer and hopefully that cures it.

BTW, a knock sensor is not a pyrometer. A pyrometer is a temperature sensing device like a thermocouple.

The SENSORS ground is the engine block itself. I have never had my car die to a bad knock sensor and I have had several.

I hear one click in the ecu everytime before it dies and then it stumbles till it dies. I replaced a capacitor in it already but at the time the others checked fine so I did not replace them. Do you think mabey a bad capacitor could be causing the cel to come on saying it is a bad knock sencer. Some times it will run for up to 15 minutes with no problems and then all of a sudden it dies and after that every time it starts up for 2 seconds and dies. The only code it says is the knock sencer. The cel is on regardless of it acting up or not. I found the code pattern in a chiltons book. Any Ideas?

If you know the problem is with the ecu get a used one they can be had off of ebay for less than 100 dollars.

I replaced all 3 capacitors and it still dies only it is doing it more often now. I think it might be a bad cam angle sencer because a guy on tuners not to long ago had that problem and had a cel (knock sencer) come up even though it was the cas. I don't know what the simptoms were though. I still hear the click everytime right before it dies and when it decides it wants to idle I hear backfires and pops like a mother and smell gas. Any help is greatly appriciated!
