Ok, well I think I got just bad lifter tick, but I want to make sure.... Here is what is happening:

Start car, ticks bad... constant tapping sound
Let engine idle out a bit, ticking slows and starts to quite
Drive car, tick continues, not as noticable over 3500 rpm....
Car warms up tick seems to almost stop completley, if not all togeather.
Car ticks a tiney tiney little bit after the car is warmed up, not very loud at all
I can restart car after it cools for like 20 min and there is not a loud tick

And the tick comes and goes after the car warms up and like I said before comes and goes....

It has been doing this really bad well atleast I think really bad ever sense I put my carbon fiber hood on... I think I might just notice it more.... But I was still worried..

I am going to upgrade cams and lifters soon, but I dident want to unless I knew that this was lifter tick. The motor has 122k miles on it, good compression like 152 across the board and is in a 91 with the 6 bolt, it is really damn fast under boost. I cant seem to think it would be rod knock, because I doubt it would run for this long.

But let me know.

I suspect the carbon fiber doesn't block the engine noise as well and thus more noticeable. To assist in diagnosis you can use a mechanics stethescope, a 3' piece of semi-hard hose, and/or a wooden listening dowel. Just probe or pass around different parts of the engine when it's making noise, the wooden dowel you press up against you ear. Each have their on best uses but should isolate and confirm it probably is the hydraulic lifters which need service or replacement.

Cheers,
GTM

I kinda did something like that, I can tell that the noise is comming form the top end, because when I started the car and went under it to check for leaks one day I dident hear it like at all.
