HELP!!Knock/Tick CANT FIGURE IT OUT

92TSI, Car will knock and tick at idle only sometimes. It is VERY loud and i can hear it while driving all the way through the rev range. I tried diff. oil and stuff nothing changes it. It seems to come from the Top end RIGHT IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. I know it had to be lifters or ROCKERS cause it sounds loudest at the top end, but really loud in the intake. I tried swapping the lifters out with others and no difference so could it be a balance shaft that ticks like that with the sound loudest in the intake.

anyone, could it be a balance shaft. I listened with a stethoscope and it sounded loudest at the injectors, could this be cause of my 255pump or is it just a fluke and it has nothing to do with the injectors.
