Keep ac or ditch it?

Im building up my 90 tsi and while i was tearing everything out of the engine bay to prep it for paint I was trying to decide if I should put the AC back on or not. I rarely use it anyway and it would reduce the clutter but i'm not sure if it will be worth the risk of the defrost issues ill have in the winter. Any suggestions are wanted!

It's not hard or expensive to convert to r134. Clean out mineral oil with solvent, replace accumulator, install new seals (not required, but a good idea), vacuum system, add ports, add oil and refrigerant.

I don't have A/C on my car and I really wish I did. When it's really hot out your just going to be a sweaty mess everytime you get out of your car. I hate peeling my shirt off my back. Also if you drive down roads with heavy traffic, your not going to get a nice breeze through the windows at 5 mph.

I removed it from my last GST. Just opened windows and sunroof. Yet my current spyder and last spyder, I can't part with it even though I can drop the roof. I got missed thoughts on removing the system. Never noticed any change in the defrosting cycle though.

I got rid of mine and to me, the less clutter in the engine bay was worth it. I do live kind of out in the country where theres not many stoplights, so I get a pretty nice breeze.

Spokane has awsome summer weather, I would ditch it. Texas summers on the other hand are hell! My n/t has it, my tsi doesnt

I love that all the people saying to ditch it live in northern states or are used to not having it.

I bought mine in december and replaced the belts without putting the compressor one back on thinking I could take it. First heat wave over 90* I quickly put it back on. Ac is a gift if you live in the south.

I kept mine, and love it. I had one that I took it out of. Don't throw it out, keep it and get it working this way if you dont want to use it dont turn it on. It will also help on the resell

I recently installed mine and got it working again. I must say it's not not having my back be wet on semi-long drives. I installed it more for passenger comfort. And like spooln4fun said, it helps the resell value on your car.

Ditch it, i live in spokane washington too and here we dont hardly need A/C, i just chucked mine and the damn compressor on the back of the block is a little 20lbs piece of metal waiting to be ripped out. haha

I use my a/c so I can hear phonecalls, its hard to hear at 70mph with every window down

Looks like a very opinionated two-way decision. Two options: keep it or 86 it. I keep my AC for passengers. Your choice. Choose wisely my friend.

Before I recharged my a/c system it was difficult to hear my stereo clearly with all the noise from the 3" turbo-back exhaust and the windows rolled down. After the recharge, the stereo was much more enjoyable to listen to while cruising. Just some food for thought.

Ditch it, if your focused on performance deff ditch it I don't have mine anymore its less weight and less boost lag.
