MSD DIS-2 ignition- keep or sell?

It won't hurt to run it but the stock ignition has proven itself to high HP with the right wires. If it were me, I would sell it and get new wires and plugs then use the left over money for other things. That's what I actually did with mine.

Anyone who truly knows what there talkin about would know that puttin that MSD crap on will be a wast of effort. I'd be willing to bet that if you attempt to install that you'll be back on the forums postin questions as to why your car won't work right any more.

Trust me, factory coilpack with regular 'ol ngk plugs and wires is all 90 percent of us on here will ever need. Period.

I personally have dyno'd over 500awhp, stock coilpack, my best friend alex (boostdriven) has dyno'd 580awhp, stock coil pack, this guy we know cody who's never been on a dyno buts WAY FASTER THAN US uses hx52 high boost and guess what? STOCK COILPACK

True story, my current body (car pictured in my avatar) was purchased SO CHEAP cause the guy sellin it couldn't make car run right. Guess what the problem was? Had msd crap on the car that had it all F'd up. Put factory coilpack on and problem solved

Msd sucks and the only people that are gonna disagree are people that aren't makin $hit for power. Ask any 5 or 6 hundred horse power guy what he has and nine times out of ten the awnser will be factory with ngk plugs and wires. And once the party starts rockin at like 7-800 HP and above and factory pack don't work no more, they switch to somethin a hell of a lot better than msd

Sell that crap to the next guy that posts somethin tryin to disagree with that. He needs it a lot more than you do.

What ignition are you running? I'm running ARC-2 with stock coil pack, and the way RRE built my car, on the stock ignition when trying to gun it, sputters like crazy! This ARC-2 is really pissing me off because it works right when it wants to. Switched up to the latest model and now my car wont start with it at all, would so much rather get in my car, stock ignition setup, turn my key and go!

EDIT: Setup - 328awhp w/91 octane and 525awhp w/110 octane

The only mod on ignition is if your running high hp. Then a true coil on plug with a box, like Spooling Up c.o.p. systems. But expect to pay 1k plus for one. The stock set up is good for 600whp I believe.

Weston Thompson dyno'ed at 620whp on full factory ignition with Taylor 10.2mm wires and BR7ES plugs gapped at .018. He's now going bigger, and did end up going with the DIS-2 to power his COP, but if it gives him any trouble he's going back to his stock coilpack.

You sir are ignorant. I have dyno tested MSD DIS-2 on 2002 dodge neon ACR, and Jeep SRT-8 2006. I have installed MSD DIS boxes on over 20 vehicles. Before I school you on the results let me lay out what the DIS box actually does.

MSD has been around for a long time, and their trademark and name come from an ingenious and straightforward technology, Multiple Spark Discharge.

MSD's technology does 3 very important things different than your stock ignition:

First, it will fire up to 12 individual sparks over a 20 degree crankshaft rotation below 3000RPM. This is much more and much longer duration than any stock system i'm aware of. What it does is burn more of the fuel injected into the cylinder. This in turn creates more horsepower, better gas mileage and reduced emissions.

Second, above 3000rpm it's hard to discharge more than one spark per rev, so instead, it keeps one long, hot spark burning for that same 20 degrees.

This will change a few things on your car. 1. it will start up faster, 2. it will have more HP and TQ, 3. It will idle quieter, 4. Fuel mileage will increase. 5. You will be able to open up your spark gap or take full advantage of Tourqmaster non resistor plugs. 6. You will be able to run more boost without blowing out the spark.

Every vehicle I have installed this on has noticed a dramatic difference in fuel economy. This means this part will in the long run pay for itself!

2002 ACR, +4MPG, +3HP , +4TQ.
1999 GTP, Started chirping when shifting into second after DIS4 installed.
1995 SSEi. HUD MPH started jumping 2 digits at a time after DIS4 installed.
2006 Jeep SRT8, Did not have enough dyno time to allow PCM to relearn, HWY MPG went from 18 to 22 using on board computer calculations.

If you know how to install it or where to have it installed do it! It will pay for itself and provide more HP and TQ. If you dont believe me then dyno it yourself.

To everyone who is going to tell me they made big numbers with stock coils, wires, plugs. So what? SRT4's can make big numbers with stock airbox. Are you going to tell me a CAI is worthless? Ignition is part of a system, if you upgrade it you will get better performance out of it. I have been modifying ignition systems for over 10years, I have dyno tested many different types of spark plugs (see my pulstar plugs exposed write up on SRTforums), And making custom ignition setups for CPC vehicles (see my 2-MSD DIS4 write up on Cherokeesrt8.com or LXForums). I may have been the first to use a twin DIS setup on the 6.1 Hemi. My testing has been verified by SRT engineers and Darrel Cox. I am not going to get into a long fight about it because I have the data to back up my argument. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me.

And recently I have seen a DIS4 installed in the trunk of a vehicle work perfectly. The Stock PCM accounted for the additional wire length and adjusted the timing on its own. I go By What Neon? on every forum I am on.

If you want to argue that a different part will give you more HP or TQ for the money, That argument has 2 sides.

1. Short term yes, If you do not drive alot or intend to keep the car long enough for the box to pay for itself then Yes. Do something else with your money if you want the cheapest way to go fast.

2. Long term NO. If you DD the car you want one of these. It is one of the first things I do to every car I get because it pays for itself.

I buy all my DIS boxes used. DIS2 $200-300, DIS4 $250-350.

MSD DIS-2 ($250)+ Tach Adapter ($50)= $300

Gas $4/gallon (I live in Chicago)
Base line MPG 27
Cost per Mile = $.148

DIS MPG 31
Cost per mile = $.129

Saving per mile is about $.02
Miles until paid off 15,000

Anyone out there put over 15,000 miles on your car since you bought it? You could of had one of these for free!
