K&N Intake System on a 1G?

I just recently purchased a Mistubishi Eclipse GSX Turbo 91. I'm currently doing a tune up, and realized the air intake is really messed up. I was thinking of changing it, but inside it has alot of sensors, and honeycombs, etc. Is it possible to put an Air Intake System on this vehicle? Or should I just use a OEM replacement K&N?

[Goals for my car: in case this helps.]
[Perform good, but not a race car. I do not plan on getting a bigger turbo, nitrous, etc. I dont need alot of speed, just good road performance.]

Those sensors and honeycombs etc. is your MAF, it calculates the amount of air coming in your car so it knows how much fuel to deliver. You can buy a K&N filter, which is what most people do, and it will fit around your MAF, if you get the right filter. Check out the parts list on this site for a 1g Turbo and you will be able to find a filter, or filter and pipe, for your car.

do the free mod, and then get either a k&n or i believe hks makes an intake... not sure what its called but its like green and cone shaped

^^^^^HKS Super Mega Flow Filter, but I would still suggest a K&N, most people have them for a reason.

You can also check out intake pipes, for a whole intake kit, though I doubt you'll need one, a filter will be just fine for you.
