k&n air intake ???????

i have a 98 gsx with a k&n air intake. my turbo recently blew up and my mechainc said that it was because of the aftermarket air intake. the mass something is fooling my motor into telling it, its getting more air 2 supply more fuel and the excess fuel get burned up with the oil which made a leak in my turbo which made a leak in my motor drain all the oil and blew my turbo?????? is this any way possible????

Seconded. The MAF doesn't really care much about the filter. The reduced drag of a K&N (or eBay ripoff) is that much less work for your impeller.

Some mechanics are even more anal about mods than I am.

damm i cant believe we still have people so ignorant like that mechanic. it would be understandable if it came from someone who is not into cars, but to hear a mechanic say that is just sad. dont ever take your car to him again if you love your car

Dude, there will always be people who try to f*ck other people over. In my example, a mechanic hired to finish the engine swap from my wrecked talon to my new one. (I had pulled both motors all he had to do is drop ONE in). After his attempt at the install was done, he decided to take it for a test drive. The end result. Jumped timing (5 teeth intake cam). Destroyed Tranny, Destroyed T-case, busted axle. On top of that, he did the install all wrong. I had to re-do ALL the vacuum lines and wiring. The reason everything broke so bad, HE FORGOT TO FILL THE TRANNY/T-CASE WITH GEAR OIL!!!!
