K&N filter clean up

You need to purchase K&N's filter cleaner/oiling kit, they run between $20-40 depending where you find it, keeps the filter in good shape. They claim the filter should outlast your car with proper maintenance...I'm not sure if I would keep one that long though..LOL.

go get the kit. the instructions are in the kit. its easy. use warm water, rinse it well, and let it dry well before applying oil. It'll be good as new.

K&N offers a recharge kit. It includes the cleaner and the oil. K&N part number 99-5000. It retails for $11, so definitely cheaper than a replacement element.

The filter material is designed to work oiled. It wouldn't be filtering as well as it could be if you didn't oil it.

Any K&N dealing speedshop, online jobber, or parts store should have them in stock or at least be able to get them for you. It's an incredibly common part number. I'd be willing to bet your local Autozone/CarQuest had them on the shelf. Take that part number in and ask for it specifically.

The K&N oil is pretty cheap and is available in most auto parts stores. I squirt the oil into the "valleys" of the pleats and let capillary action help spread the oil into the filter material.

BTW, if you REALLY wanted to go low budget and save a buck or two on the filter cleaning material, somebody once told me the fancy, expensive K&N filter cleaner is just an expensive version of a common household/kitchen cleaner that starts with "Formula..." ;)

Similar question, but I run a Vibrant Performance filter and does anyone know if I would be able to use a K&N kit on it to clean it up assuming it needs oiled?

Yes, the Vibrant elements clean and oil the same way as a K&N element. The K&N recharge kit will work on any cotton-gauze, oiled element.

Thank a lot, I now have something else to occupy my time with when I get the car back. (Don't know if it's me or every DSMer, but I just want to take things off of my car after it comes back from the garage just so I can feel her parts again LOL)
