So, my friend bought a 1G today... Clean as a whistle, but its not running. We plan on swapping in a new engine, but I was talking to the guy about what happened....

He said he was racing some guy and the oil pressure got too low and the engine just quit. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

start with the basics.....
getting fuel? getting spark? did the time belt jump? pop the hood and take a look...

and the oil pressure got too low
Right there is the answer what happened. Bet he didn't check his oil levels since he was prob blowing a lot past the rings if he was running the motor close to redline, the mains seized and threw a rod.

Good luck with your easy find. Just take care of it.. DSM

Pull the spark plugs if it's a manual tranny car take it out of gear, try turning the engine over by hand use a half breaker bar on the end of the crank shaft. it should spin over pretty easy if it dosn't than the engine is seized

could put it in gear and start rocking it back and forth without the plugs in it. That would give you an idea in the shape of the lower end of the motor.

Other than that, 1g motors are fairly easy to find if it was ran out of oil.

its done guy. if u could get a light around to the back side of the motor to see if there is a hole i wouldnt be surprised if there was. i bought my 90 awd froma guy who is now my friend and he was drivin it down the road and he said it made a loud banging sound so he sold it to me cause it wouldnt turn over. got the motor out and i could stick my fist in the back of the block hahaha. but ut better off finding another motor case that one is toast

Well after the guy had the problem racing, he actually drove it to the gas station put oil in it and drove it home....so I doubt it threw a rod through the block. Oh and the only motor i can find right now is a 4g63 cyclone, for under $1000. I would prefer another engine like the one in it, minus the not running part LOL.

I was planning on buying another engine anyways, but I was hoping this one might work until I got one. Any websites where I can find used 4g63t's? Craigslist doesnt have any 6 bolts, and the ones on ebay are like $1200.

Wait.. so you have a non running 1g turbo car? so basically have what all of us 1g owners have? :) LOL

If it ran low on oil I'd say it's rebuildable, but probably not something simple. Have you pulled the oil pan and inspected the bearings?

No I have not, we just went through a blizzard and got around 10inches of snow on top of 3 inches of ice. So we're still stuck with about 6 inches of snow right now. But I will take note of it and check it when its dry.
