The motor just got a fresh rebuild. The head is stock, but the block has 1g rods, 2g pistons, and a balance shaft elimanator kit. I want to have 400-500 awhp. I want to use either the holset hx35 or hx40. They seem to do very well with the dsms, plus you can't beat the price. This is not my daily driver in Case your wondering. I'm not real sure which turbo will support my goal. After something blows I plan on stroking it with a built head. What can I expect out of one of these turbos with the basically stock motor? The fuel system will be there to support it as well as the dsm link for tuning.

Well what do you plan on doing with it? Both of the holsets are good turbos but there are other options on the table that may get you where you want to go and make a car that is better suited to your needs. What I'm getting at is whether this will be a drag car, autox car, street machine, etc.

There is an abundance of information on this forum about holset turbos which you can find by searching if you haven't already and those threads will help you make a final decision but if it were my car I would suggest the hx35 for most applications. It is larger than the evo3 16g that I run and I find myself fairly unhappy with the lag that I have to deal with at lower speeds and coming out of corners and I'm more than happy with the amount of top end that I have up to about 80mph which is as fast as I will normally go since I've only ever raced on an autox track and I'm not a huge fan of incredible speed on a public road.

FWIW a 16g if pushed hard to its limits could reach 400hp and IIRC the 35/40 can both manage it.
