new to dsm's just got a few questions

hey guys obviously im new to dsm's im coming from the honda world im picking up a 1g eclipse from a buddy soon and i just got a couple questions. quest 1: what all do you need to use a safc vs. dsmlink to tune the car? quest 2: do you need a maf translator with a virtually stock motor? well i just planned on going with a big 16g turbo 650 cc injectors, a fmic custom manifold and exhaust so idk what you guys would consider stock

The SAFC lets you adjust the amount of air you ECU sees. Link lets you adjust a LOT more. prodcompare [ECMTuning - wiki]

With Link you can by a cable to eliminate the need for the translator if you use a gmMAF.

You will never NEED a maf translator. IT isn't a required part, just a tuning option. An safc tricks the ecu to see less airflow, dsmlink actually changes the perimeters of the ecu.

Dsmlink is basically a tunable chip that replaces the factory non tunable chip. It makes the ecu fully programmable.

ahhh so then the chip is just burnt into the ecu and then they hook the ecu to a computer?

link in nice because theres no need for a data logger, you can see all your codes and cel. Your gonna need a wideband link is really nice and is not that hard to use.

Link let's YOU hook up your computer and change it yourself! Very very useful program and very well designed and built! I have no input for an safc although I just picked up one for my 1g I plan to learn about it and use it only bc it will see minimal upgrades(B16g,550cc,2g mas and an exhaust)

If you want you can always go the easy route if you aren't looking for big power and get a 97-98 flash ecu and a tuning software.
