I just finished swapping my motor in my 92 awd. I got it all together to a minute to start it them i cranked it it started idled at 2500 for like 5 seconds then just shut off. It hasent started since then it wasnt cranking the motor so i replaced the stater then still didnt crank then it started to crank but still doesnt start. new wires new plugs new battery new altornater new starter. i dont know whats wrong i cant get it to turnover. any ideas what it could be?

thanks

Sounds to me like mentioned before. Timing issue. Belt may have skipped on the intake cam and causing improper firing. Or bent your valves. One of your posts sounds to me like you have no compression..

To the guy without the MAF. One question. Why would you honestly waste the time and money to do an AWD swap on a FWD? Makes like 10x easier when you just buy an AWD shell and throw everything from yours in it. 2G AWD's it is worth the AWD swap but not on a 1G. Also, you not running a MAF is going to cause you to lock your motor up. Too much fuel will cause cylinder wash and it tears or bearings.

Well i got a flipped AWD car free so i decided i was going to pull the AWD parts and scrap it. And why would a 2g be worth it but not a 1g??? Like I have said enough times I AM NOT driving the car like this. The car is PARKED. I was just saying the car will run without it because mine does and it runs just as good without it. When I finnish the project i am going to be running the MAF.

figured it out today. the big washer that goes with the crank sprocket we forgot to put it on and it made the timing just and we redid the timing. still wouldnt start then and we took the valve cover off and like 10 lifters we off and the valves are bent so i gotta look for a new head now. it really sucks because i been waiting 2 months just to swao it and now the timing jumped and i got bent valves.

thanks for the help guys

2G's is a much easier swap. Drill a few holes and get the right parts needs for the swap including gas tank and your done.

Sorry to head the valves are bent. Was the head ever redone?

Sucks to hear that man. Im sure next time you will remember that washer. Do you build with a Manual. Unless you are VERY knowlageable of DSM's I would suggest using a chilton manual when wrenching.

You make it sound easy. I helped do an AWD swap on a 97 GST and it was more than a few holes. Anyway the reason Im swaping instead of buying is 1 this car is my baby and will never get sold 2 i have a total of $600 in the car and AWD parts and i do fabrication for a living so i have the tools and skills needed.
