I just finished swapping my motor in my 92 awd. I got it all together to a minute to start it them i cranked it it started idled at 2500 for like 5 seconds then just shut off. It hasent started since then it wasnt cranking the motor so i replaced the stater then still didnt crank then it started to crank but still doesnt start. new wires new plugs new battery new altornater new starter. i dont know whats wrong i cant get it to turnover. any ideas what it could be?

thanks

Do you hear the ignition when you try the start it? If not make sure everything is ground and check your fuses. If you do hear the ignition make sure the coil pack - wire - spark plugs are setup in the correct order and see if there's fuel pressure.

theres deffinitly fuel pressure you can smell the gas when you try starting it after a few times. plugs are in order 4123. all the bolt on parts came off are 100% complete running engine. fuses are good. it just like makes a winding noise sounds like the starters shot but it brand new and the motor cranks. it gets spark because it back fires sometimes it has no exhaust on it

So is the motor turning over and not firing up. If it isnt turning over try this.

Try to turn the motor over manualy. Remove the plugs before doing this because compression and valves feel the same. Take a half inch extension and ratchet and turn the motor over at the crank. Timing may be off and ## valves could be hitting the pistons.

it makes a ticking noise when i crank it too. the timing was just done before the motor went in.

For the car to start you need spark, fuel, compression and timing has to be correct. I would start checking everything and start narrowing down what you are and aren't getting.

Another possibility could be your CAS, that controls the cars fuel and spark - hence preventing it from starting.

Make sure your coolant temp sensor is working because if it isn't that will also prevent a 1g from starting.

no spark on the old plugs they had oil on them. put different ones in and still wont start and new plugs. timing was just done. you can smell the fuel after a few times cranking it

I would check each plug individually. Pull out one of the spark plug wires and place it on your valve cover, crank the car and have someone watch to see if it's sparking. Do this with all four wires. You said you just put in new spark plugs so they're probably not bad so you can just check from the wires if they're getting spark.

If that checks out and you're definitely getting spark, I would do a compression check.

the cas is good it came off a running motor. my temp sensor was being dumb it was at the H then we fixed the plug for it then it went down.

stupid question but are your cam gears turning, almost sounds like the timing belt failed and you are cranking a no compression engine w/ bent valves likely.

:thumb: i'd also check this, or take the upper cover off and turn it over if you havent already, even if the belt didnt completely break you should see if the marks lineup

The MAF will not keep the car from running i aint running one on my car
WTF
Did you install a carburetor?
It won't keep it from firing, but it can certainly keep it from idling, let alone "running".

OP, I think you should double check your timing marks. That ticking may be bent valves. If timing is good, you should check for spark next only because it's easy. Then move on to compression tests, plug gaps, fuel delivery, injector sequence, etc.

Nope no Carb. My car doesn't idle untill it warms up then it idle just fine. I'm not recommending it i'm just saying that wont keep it from starting.

Well it probly aint running right but i dont drive the car right now because im in the process of doing an AWD swap When I start driving it again im going to put on on it but it will run without one. The car is 100% stock other than the AWD im putting under it.
