I have a 99 gsx and My bastard 20g Turbo just blew. I need some guidance to find a new one cause I don't have a large amount of cash to spend and I don't know what turbo would best suit my mods.

-HKS 272/272 Cams
-20g Turbo
-3 inch piping, front to back - no cat/reson
-Front-mount Intercooler
-Manual Boost Controller (set to 16lbs)
-Upgraded Wastegate
-1g Crushed Blow-off Valve
-660cc Fuel Injectors
-Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump (rewired)
-A-Pillar 2 Gauge Set: Boost and Wideband A/F ratio
-DSMLINK
-ACT 2600 Clutch / Fidanza flywheel.
-Short Throw'd
-Taylor Spark Plug Wires / NGK BPR6ES Spark Plugs

you can get a 16g or a 14b with a ported waste gate. depends on where you wanna end up as far as power. I would try to find a 20g rebuild kit depending on what actually went wrong with the turbo or find a big 16g and push a little more boost

I agree with 2gGSX about finding a rebuild kit for your 20g because it would be worth it if you don't have the money to spend on a new turbo. Our call some of the shops in the vendors section and see if you can find someone to repair it for you that should still be cheaper then a new turbo.

I want to run more than 16psi. I was hoping for something around 20. Ive thought about rebuilding it but to get the turbo balanced and shit is alot of money. If worste comes to worste I would like to buy another 20g or something similar. Any suggestions?

^ ^ Thanks for the recommendation, but shipping a turbo to and from Canada SUCKS. :notgood:

My last Canadian customer paid something like $75 round-trip shipping, and the shipping took forever.

You can rebuild it yourself without a rebalance as long as there's no wheel damage. Follow my tech articles and you'll be just fine with minimal tools.

I say rebuild the 20G or go with a 50 trim. With the BOV you have now your limited to around 18 psi give or take. And the 660 injectors should do you just fine for a 50 trim at no more than 18 psi. Your clutch and everything else seems to be just fine for pushing past the smaller turbo's. If you weren't limited by your injectors and BOV I would say that a Holset HX35 is even doable. The HX35 seems to wake up above 20 psi so in your case it wouldn't be a good idea to make the injectors work that hard.

Good luck.

20G's are much more reliable than a Garrett hyrbid, and I've seen crushed 1G valves hold MUCH more than 18psi.

get a 16g instead and push more boost

how did your 20g blew? is it a knock off one ?

No it wasn't a knock off. It was the legit mitsubishi 20g. Ever since I had the car I think the turbo was going because it was burning a bit of oil. Then when I took the turbo off i poured a bunch of oil out of it. So it had to of been going the whole time.

ok yeah bov can hold more then that all day!!!! but as for the turbo get soming like a 50 trim or 57trim yeah it's laggy but wroth it or a holset would be good just find what holset would be good for you.

If there's no wheel damage, rebuild it yourself or I can rebuild it for you. There's no reason to ditch a perfectly good 20G due a little seal leakage.

A rebuild would cost 1/3 the price of a new turbo (or less in some cases), and it would make your turbo perform like a new one.

Some of the fins are broken on the inside and I can see it scraping on the inside tho. It is still worth it to rebuild?

You should of said that from the start!!! That thing is junk, and only good for parts now..
Unless you want to buy new compressor wheel and get it balanced..

Haha I think Im just going to buy another 20g brand new so I have no worries. No sense in gambling my money on a used one.
