I am posting this for a friend, who plans on purchasing a turbo tonight. I meant to just post it under his name so that his mod list could be available, but i forgot his password so here goes...

he owns a 1996 eclipse gsx

Full 3 inch exhaust from turbo back
Tubular exhaust manifold
Greddy front mount intercooler
Manual boost controller
550 injectors
190 walbro fuel pump
apexi safc
intake w/cone filter
Greddy blowoff valve
Slowboy racing clutch (the one kinda like the 2600 i dont remember the exact one)
Bpr7es ngk plugs

With this setup, could my friend effectively run a bastard 20g from slowboyracing, or is he going to need a different setup to run this turbocharger?

he should be fine. i ran a td05 20g on the same mods, except a 2.5 exhaust. can i ask why he's getting the bastard 20g? Big wheel in a small housing. :nono: WTF

okay, i just talked to him and he said its kinda sleeper, and it comes with internal wastegate for 899

so basically slowboy bastard 20g= 899

regular 20g- 899+125 for internal wastegate
-or-
regular 20g- 899+new exhaust manifold with external wastegate flange+external wastegate

opinions?

you know what, im not sure what his fascination is with that turbo....

Those turbos (SBR Bastard / FP Sleeper "16G") are specialty turbos for stock-class events (AutoX, Drags) where aftermarket mods are not allowed. Since these are essentially a 20G in a 16G package, they look like a stock 16G but flow alot more, but at the expense of efficiency due to the smaller compressor cover.

Unless this is his sole purpose, there are several better options out there for him (18G, TD0520G, RS49..etc).

BTW.. came accross THIS option from FP. Find a spent 16G swap the tubine housing and actuator over and you'll have the least expensive 400HP turbo out there :thumb:

He must not be planning on boosting very high...550's are kinda small for a 20g....
every time people talk about turbos they always say 550's arent enough! Its getting old.. I ran 21psi daily on my 20g with 550's. with no knock. I ran 22psi on my 50trim daily with 550's, no knock. if 550s arent enough bump the fuel pressure a bit.

I ran my 50-trim for a few days @18psi with 550s (42psi base) and little knock but my injector duty cycles were > 100% at anything over 5K RPM. I guess I could of turned up the FP to 50psi, but I elected to do the right thing and get larger injectors ;)

odd i ran mine at 43base pressure with no knock and no problems.. maybe its my altitude because i dont flow as much as you guys

That's what I'm saying, you can use 550s for a 20g and boost 21psi but your going to be running the injectors at 100% duty cycle. If I was him, I would go with 650s or higher. I'm running 63% duty cycle on my 680s with an Evo 3 gt......

Bingo :D

It's not about PSI it about actual HP/airflow.

Checking HERE you can see that at Denver altitude (~5000ft) you will see -9% HP correction verses the same 22psi readings at sea level.
