I need a ported head and was looking at the JUN ported head since 2 of my friends have it with great results. The only problem is the price, $5,800 with out cams. What amazes me the msot is that they use the stock valves and valve springs. They also switch to solid lifter. I have seen the heads that Buschur, SBR, and AMS have and cost half of that with better valves and springs.
Why is it then that JUN cost so much.

WHat do you guys think, should I go with the #.S. guys like Buschur, SBR, and AMS?

Thanks
Jay

I could never shell out $5800 for a head. For that much money, you could buy a Buschur Stage III block and head with cams and have a nearly bulletproof motor. I've priced out Jun cams and I can't seem to justify $1200 for something that will likely give me the same performance for triple the cost. JUN is huge in the JDM and while I'm sure they make excellent products, I wouldn't bother when you can buy proven parts for a fraction of the price.

Hope that helps,

Andy

I agree.

I can see spending a bit more for a good company to get the benefits of there R&D, but that is just crazy expensive. I would have to see a huge power gain over say Crower or HKS to pay that much for cams. I honestly think most of these companies up the price becasue they know uneducated people will pay that much to say, " I have JUN cams, they are JDM yo."

I'm going to suggest you go with Buschur, they just plain out build the best dsm engines. At least in my opinion. Their block and head are nearly bulletproof and you can have a full longblock for a litle over 5k with cams and all. The whole JDM craze is what makes JUN so expensive, and even if they make good products there is no reason to spend so much on it. The Buschur motor will take anything you can think to throw at it. I don't really recommend the SBR built motors since I've seen pretty catastrophic failures due to the fact they use alot of topline products in their motors, and topline is pretty much crap. AMS builds good stuff as well but you are paying for the name (at least from what I've seen from them)
Other options include BJ cylinder head, Polk performance, and Magnus motorsports, but I don't know too much about any of them

I agree as well with the previous posts. If you were going to get gobs of power from something like that maybe. But the parts and machine work that those other companies do have also done their research and they have proven themselves and the parts they use over and over again. I'm sure your friends might have gotten good results from the JUN products but whose to say they wouldn't have gotten the same or better performance from one of those other suppliers. I would go proven builder and parts for a fraction of the cost. Put the rest of that money into a bigger turbo :thumb:

If you're looking for a head, state your horsepower and rev goals. There are dozens of different setups that you can go with, but if you're more descriptive you might be able to get more answers.

If you're not sure, try sites like www.ffwdconnection.com , they have pretty good descriptions of their heads and their capabilities as well as pretty competitive pricing. (I don't work for them)

$5,800 does seem a little bit too much for just a head, but everyone has their own preferences.

I would say that a JUN head would be over-kill if your still using the car for road racing. With all of the proven heads (bushcurs, AMS, FFWD, Jackson.) out there for DSM, your best bet is to go with something that fits your goals in road racing. Then that leaves for money for other mods.

I agree with 95 TSIAWD. Check out FFWDconnection.com they have great motors and really cool powdercoating, if you need that extra bling bling in your engine bay :thumb:

Ive got to agree with 95 tsiawd and spoolin99, go to ffwdconnection and get something that would suite your needs for street racing...if you were sponsored and doing just racing at the track, I would say go and blow your sponsor's cash, and get it but the truth is your probably not, so save a little bit more and get a nearly bullet proof fully built long block(head and short block in case you didn't know) for just about the same price. Also FFWD cryo proccess there heads and blocks if you want right there before they send it to you, and you can ask them to powdercoat it as well to look real hot. I have yet to hear anything bad about FFWD so i would drop the 5.8k JUN head thought with 1.2k cams and invest into a 2.3L stroker that has been tested for quite some time to handle 700 HP and high revving.(I dont work for FFWD either, but Im just a big fan of there products and am planning on getting the 2.3L "Batman" stroker from them with all the goodies:D, damn I feel like a kid on X-MAS morning just thinking about it.)
Well G'Luck with what ever way you decide to go.

I'll tell you what, you get your $5800 head, and your $1200 cams and I'll spend $7000 on a head plus any other goodies I want. After we've both made our upgrades I'll race you for pink slips okay? (at the track of course) Whenever you're ready.
